Hey guys,
I know there's a 6 page thread on the VT...but this is specific with regards to personal opinions on various ways to use it in a signal chain...and yeah, JimmyM...sorry for singling you out in the post...but I couldn't send you a message.
I've been reading a lot here for a while and I seem to have a lot in common with regards to taste and have appreciated your input on various questions here...so that's why I'm trying to get your attention. Don't mean to be overly dramatic...just wanted to make sure you saw this one...
ANYWAY... I'm loving this VT pedal from SansAmp. I'm flirting around with a "no rig" set up (basically using whatever I have on stage as just an extra monitor to help with intonation and timing for those gigs when in-ears aren't possible...(or when there's an incompetent sound guy).
I really only have a few distortion, overdrive, and fuzz pedals in my chain...and demeter compulator (used light and sparing). And it all goes into a REDDI DI.
I'm thinking about picking a good setting and keeping it on all the time. So basically I'm wondering various schools of thought on whether the VT should be first or last in the signal chain.
Thanks for your thoughts guys. I love this place because of all the info and varied opinions.

i guess it is personal taste, but to me it makes the effects before the VT sound like the effects are being put thru the SVT speaker simulation, whereas if they were put after, they sound like they going straight pass the VT.
it required me to do some tweaking of settings on my overdrive pedal, but i like the sound of the effects going into the VT so i have the VT almost last.

I just use the VT and a Zoom B2 I can tell you how to get good sounds out of the VT, but when it comes to pedal order, eh...can't say I'm clueless but others on here know way more than me. I put the VT before the Zoom and it sounds fine to me. Others have said they've gotten good results putting the VT last in the chain. It's really just a matter of trying out various combinations and picking the one that you like best. But considering everything's going into a REDDI at the end, I think you'll be just fine no matter what you do.

Having a the pitch black last effectively makes it a mute so everything goes silent when I step on it. I should probably experiment a bit more with the flanger after the VT as suggested in the manual but I'm happy so why change it. |

Oh, and a Wooly Mammoth clone now too! Most overdrives sound far to fizzy and farty when going direct, and the VT Bass smooths this out just like it would if going through an Ampeg rig. All of them sound SO much better when the VT Bass is on after them, although I sometimes prefer the Supercollider without it.
It's also best to put your delay and modulation after the VT so that it doesn't compress your delay trails or muddy up your modulation. |

No interaction problems have surfaced
For "garage band" fuzz the multi-comp drives the Voodoo bass direct, kick the comp off and let the VT drive the Voodoo bass and you get overdriven SVT vibe. The VT tends to add softness and bloom to the overall sound. ... I like the VT alot just by itself or with the comp too. |

Totally agree with the VT smoothing out distortions, obviously in a good way. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
