Need phaser recommendations.

My favorite effect I've ever owned was my old EHX Small Stone. I loved the way that pedal sounded, but I always wanted more options out of it. So, can anyone recommend me a similarly voiced phaser with more options? There are a ton based around the MXR, but not many I can find based on the Stone, aside from the very expensive Blackout Whetstone. I'd prefer true bypass, and the cheaper the better. There aren't really places around here for me to try any out beyond EHX, Boss, and MXR, so I pretty much just have your recommendations to go on.

I honestly don't know any other boutique phasers based on the Small Stone other than the Whetstone. If you're willing to go for a used one, I've seen Whetstones for around $200, which isn't outrageous.

Alternatively, even though it is based on a different phaser design, you could check out the Stereo Polyphase. With all of the knobs available (especially start and stop), you can really change the voicing quite a bit, and could probably get close to a Small Stone.

The HBE is excellent for the money.

I'm pretty sure the HBE is based on the small stone, too.

The ehx Stereo Polyphase is a great phaser, but it might strike you as too mild/subtle at lower feedback settings if you're comparing it to the small stone.

I've looked into the Grand Orbiter, but I can't find a clip of one anywhere, and I don't really want to shell out a ton of money without hearing the thing first. Thanks for the recommendations everyone, I'll take a closer look at the HBE.

the moogerfooger is an awesome phaser too, with some frequency control that is useful for bass (though less flexible than the ehx polyphase freq control)

the upcoming subdecay quasar may turn out to be worth waiting for, as well...

its more subtle than a small stone but the red witch moon phaser is the bomb IMO.
