Need Some advice! (ASAP!) {long post}

Hey Guys. I'm reading and will keep reading these effects threads, but I am playing in a new band that does "Experimental Metal/fushion Type" music.

I never played in this kind of band before, I thought it would be fun and help expand my playing.

I'm not much of a effects user. I play straight in, but need some extra flavors! And have no idea where to start! All I ever used in the past is a comp./eq/ and phase for one song, lol. oh, and a Boss ODB-3 for one song-still have that.

I need some effects that would be great for this music. We use a "jam box" and have a key player who also has a Moog Synth. Our guitar player has a full stack Line 6 rig that has a huge control foot petal, have no clue what amp it is, but it is shiney and lights up and stupid loud!! lol.

What should I look at? Many FX pedals or a All-in-one deal like Line6 or Boss? If I go floor deal, I want one that is easy to change on the fly! Or line a Line 6 POD XT and some stomps mixed in? I also have 1 space left open in my rack too.

I want some synths and the reg. suspects, like flange/delays/chorus/phase and need a bunch of OD's, Fuzz, and grinds. And anything else that is "Out there" and I need a Bass wah!

Here is my set up for this band so far: '06 HWY1 Jazz (upgraded version w/ Badass) tuned B,F#,B,E, '95 USA P-Bass in standard for covers and some originals, and I tune the A to C to play "Sugar" by SOAD. I may have a Roscoe V incoming too!!!

I run this to my Peavey Pro 500 head and Peavey Pro 500 410 cab. I have a SKB 3 space rack incoming for the head and a Furman power cond. that has the tube lights incoming too.

in the tuner out is a Planet waves stomp tuner. And I have the footswitch that mutes the amp and bypasses the EQ section.

Thanks so much for some ideas tips and whatever advice you can offer, and thanks for reading all of this.

WARNING! SOME FOUL WORDS IN THESE TUNES!

http://www.myspace.com/paralyzm this is the band. I'm not on any of these tunes.

and this is the demos for the new songs that I need to the effects for and to add flavors too the old stuff.
http://www.myspace.com/alwayssol As you can see, the band is changing and will be "out there" and will be fun to pull off live!

Thanks guys. ( Oh, the ASAP part is because we have a bunch of gigs coming and plan to hit the studio soon, either an EP or full on album by fall) Needless to say, my plate is full. Plus helping my buddys' daughter in the talent show at school. "Strong enough to be my man" sung by a 12 yr old is so cute, lol.

i would suggest staying away from any multi-effect unit..others might disagree though.

heres a list of the stuff i use (and am very pleased with)

visual sound jekyll and hyde
analogman mini chorus with deep mod
dunlop 105Q wah
zvex machine
boss oc-2 suboctave
boss rv-5 reverb/delay
boss rc20-XL (loop station. usefull for practice and solo slots at gigs)
red witch moon phaser

thats all the stuff that ive owned and been very happy with. as for a synth, i used to have the EHX bass micro synth but it died on me (as did the other 3 electro harmonics pedals ive owned..)

chunk systems is comming out with a synth pedal that looks like its going to be top notch. should be on the market early this summer.

hope that helps.

If your looking for a lot of different OD/Dist/Fuzz flavors, you should prolly stick to singles. Also, "change on the fly" rules out most multies. There is usually a slight delay when switching patches/setups on them, and depending on the gain structure between patches you can get some really crazy [not in a good way] popping sounds out of the Line 6 PODs.

The ods' and fuzzes will be used very rarely. I use a lot of punch and bottom end. I'm the ying to the guitars yang in terms of tone. He uses a lot of HEAVY Distortion, to the point sometimes, I can't hear what notes he is using. My Od's will be sparse to say the least, and may only be used in the recordings only. Live, I'm all about in your face tone and feel in your chest. Plus I don't play all the same bass lines as the old bass player, he mostly just followed the guitar 100% of the time and had a weak tone, I think. I try to add in some other things and I am sneaking R&B/funk/ Motown flavor lines in there, they love it, just hope they don't realize what I'm doing, lol And I'm leaving some open spaces in some tunes to let the songs breath, applying the "less is more" method to things.

Personally, your band seems to have a slight 'ambient' feel (in places) and personally i'd go for a delay which Oscillates, a feedback loop, a phaser. There's definately places for these in songs such as LA, but not in songs such as 2008. Obviously some form of drive too for such things and to got with the phaser!

Just IMO as ever.

Thanks, 2008 is an odd song, we never have played that as a band, not sure why it is on the site..... (not to fond of it myself) LA has a tasty bass line I came up with, that has a lot of space in it. I hope we get a full band version of that one up. And "Things to Come" os live w/ no bass on it, outside os keys, and I play a lot of slap/funk on it(although not that great, lol), It sounded like it was screaming for it to me.

**EDIT** I see things to come is not on the page anymore, opps**
