Bassballs? With the dirt switch on it's quite vocal. Not exactly a thick sound though, unless you throw a few octaves at it (sounds great after a Bass Micro Synth).

see my review on the noisebox from subdecay and check the samples on bassfuzz.com and the subdecay website. it is a very filtery/wah sound with lots of grumble and glitch.

Sounds like a case for the great Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver

At the end of the clip there is a comparison between the dry signal and the sound with the pedal, see if its the sound you want.

Also a lot of mids help for growling.

Posting, or listing an example of what you are after will go a long way.

When I think of growling, I think of a fuzzy filter sound. Maybe a Prunes & Custard, or a Tube Zipper maybe?

Perhaps a boost pedal would be a good idea to get a growl sound. the devi ever dark boost would definitely give you a growling sound.

Growl is subjective. Do you have any examples of the sound your after?

A Sansamp BDDI will get you close to this..Marco really uses a GT-2 I think but a Sansamp product.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlYBsdvFORU

Sounds better on the Century Child or Once CD's.

Growl is a real broad term subject to many opinions.

Marco has a great sound. Saw them live a few times and he gets a great sound. Century Child is one of my favorite CD's. Too bad they sacked Tarja.

That sound is also a perfect example of, "sounds great in the mix but lousy alone."

Works dead on perfect for the CD but Lordy you turn the CD off.

So true. But so many players think that what sounds great in the living room automatically sounds great in a band. Not usually the case. Where it fits in a mix is the most important.
