Need some input on a Chorus

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been doing some searching, and it seems the general consensus on Choruses is for the Analogman with Deep Mod or for a Boss CE-5 or CEB-3. I don't have the kind of money it takes for the Analogman, so thats out. I've tried the Boss ones, and found them somewhat...lacking. I've had several Choruses in the past, including a DigiTech X-series (Seemed to have a REALLY good tone, but it clipped far too easily.) and the Behringer Bass Stereo Chorus. The Bass Stereo Chorus was alright but wasn't deep enough.

Now, I've got 200 bucks in my pocket. I'm hoping to not spend all of that, but I can if it gets me something I'm happy with.

Now for the criteria:

- LUSH and thiiiiick. It needs to be almost watery. I love that sound with lots of shimmer. I had the Depth cranked all the way on my old Choruses. Something similar to Justin Chancellor's bass tone in "No Quarter."
- No subtlety. I want it to stand out in a mix, and I want it to be a full Chorus effect. Preferably with no muddying up or low end loss.
-Needs to sound good with other effects. This was one thing that killed the Behringer chorus. It just didn't seem to work well with other effects. I use distortion and fuzz and phaser and delay and sometimes pitch shifting and all kinds of different combos.
-Presets would be cool if they could be had and if all the other criteria could be met. In addition, tweakability of more than just rate is nice.

I've been looking at a few options:

-MXR Black Label/Analog Chorus
-MXR m-134 Stereo Chorus
-Boss CE-20
-TC Electronic Corona
-TC Electronic Nova Modulator
-DigiTech Chorus Factory
-Visual Sound V2 LiquidChorus of H2O
-Rocktron Dreamstar
-Rocktron Tsunami
-Rocktron Deep Blue
-Akai Pro Chorus

The MarkBass chorus looked cool, but 270 seems awful steep...

Some input is appreciated.

Visual Sounds Liquid Chorus meets most of what you want. It is what I use. Really thick and wet, tweakable, it works well with other effects. I have the standalone version not the H2O.

I heard something about the H2O's muddying up the lows...have you noticed that?

I haven't had an issue with that. I mainly use it while chording. I'll check it out specifically for that tomorrow.

Danelectro Fab chorus is cheap but good. That said, I'm running the Markbass Chorus (have both) ...

I tried the CE-5 and didn't like it. When I had a Line 6 MM4, I used the CE-1 for Chorus and liked it okay.

try Porkbarrel chorus... I've used it on my pedalboard.. that pedal based on boss ce-2 with alot of mods..

additional blend knob (works great on bass),
"deep" switch (to adds a slightly larger depth of modulation),
"vibe" switch (to creating a vibrato effect),
"wet" switch (to increases bass response in the modulation)..

i think this is a great chorus pedals for a bass guitar... you can make lot of nuances..

here's the pict...

I've always liked the Voodoo Lab Analog Chorus on bass.

I had an Analogman w/ deep mod and ended up selling it. I may buy one again one of these days, but I don't really need it right now.

Try the new iron ether pedal, polytope. I'm going out on a limb with this one as its not actually a chorus. But check out the sound clips. On its milder settings it sounds like a chorus, but it can also get pretty wild sounding. I think it's at least worth a look.

Need input? Try plugging your bass into it. Oh wait... +1 to the MXR Chorus. It not as subtle as the Boss choruses.

Are there sound clips up for it yet?

Not on the site as far as I know, however, a fellow TB'er posted some up on one of the threads here. I think it was titled "New IE Pedal" or something to that effect. If I can find it again I will post a link.

Found it! New Iron Ether Pedal...?
It's post #172. It's just something quick to get you excited as it is a very new pedal. Just came out about a month ago now I believe. The really nice chorusy sounds are a little into the clip, so don't be scared away

The 18-volt version of the Danelectro Cool Cat is very lush and deep.

I use the Fulltone Choralflange (the original green version). It doesn't do the pristine TC Electronics SCF type chorus but it sure sounds good.
