| Need to upgrade from a BP8

My BP8 had developed problems with the input & output pots and also has a problem with "hot" active basses- the front end can't handle it and distorts. And, even in bypass, it seems to color the sound of the active bass. The BP8 does what I want it too, although a bit on the noisy side. If I could figure out how to resolve the hot input distortion issue, and clean the two pots, I might keep it. But I guess there has to be better out there, so I am asking. Frankly, I have been playing jazz for so long I have gotten out of the FX pool and I really need to come up to date on it. Now if I can just ignore the Roland V99.....
I have two basses- one a passive MM style- this is my round would slap bass, and a Bart preamped BB5000 with big flats. And I use both during a performance. And I may wind up running an upright through my pedal board.
What I use on the BP8:
It has a 4 band EQ, and I use this with the MM, instead of an onboard pre. The EQ's I use are around the Stanley Clark, Marcus Miller sound- a couple of variation on it. I use to compressor, and just a tough of the tube preamp. The BP8 has a couple of crude preamp models that I like. I also use the triggered wah and a the suboctave. For the BB5000, I run straight through, with just a little compression - like an LA4 or tube comp. The bass sound great as it is. I might want a looper, but that is still just an idea.
And I plan to go right into a power amp and the PA. But clean and clear are the operatives here. I could put a pre amp in the MM, if it would help, but I really like the idea of one stomp and everything I need is there.
So I am open for suggestions. Input? |
