Neutral Milk Hotel fuzz tone?

Sign in to disble this ad
Bored at work my mp3 player(ain't no Ipod) shuffled to Neutral Milk Hotel's album, On Avery Island.

I forgot how cool the fuzzed out bass sounds on this album...

Anyone know what set up the bassist used?

Heres a clip of one of the songs live...

Heres a better sounding quality version of the same sound...

All i can deduce from the clips are... a P Bass... possibly a peavey amp(cant tell which the bass is pluged in to)... maybe it's not an effect and spinning around in all those circles gets him that tone...

+1. I've always wanted to nail that fuzz tone but have always fallen short.

Yeah... i can get sorta close with the Bass boosted in the EQ with a Muff... but still it's missing something...

neutral milk hotel is the reason i bought a 2nd fuzz (hyperion)

i think a big part of why the fuzz tends to sound great on those bass tracks is that all the guitars are acoustic. the mix of the two is georgeous
