New Aguilar Compressor pedal: "TLC Compressor"

Sign in to disble this ad
Already mentioned in another thread, but I think it deserves its own.

It was introduced at the Bass Player Live 2009 shows last weekend. Anybody that was there can give us more info?

From Dave Boonshoft on another thread:
"It's pretty special. Uses a very cool trans linear control (hence "TLC") to enable us to create a compressor with very high performance. It's a feed forward design with "medium knee" that is very musical.
The slope goes to infinity, which is unusual in a stomp box, it's very easy to adjust attack, threshold, slope and level to get exactly the compression characteristics that you want. The low end is full and clean, and it also kicks butt on guitar. Of course, I am a little biased; but I'm very very happy with the way the TLC has turned out."

It's the blue box on the photo:

Yup, very interested. The FEA Comp is nearing the top of my list of pedals to purchase but I'm still really keen to hear more about this one.

I don't know about the compressor, but the octaver is really good.

I'd love to hear the comp!

Single or dual band? True bypass? Noise? Does it have the cojones to contain volume spikes from an envelope filter? More info please...

I already have a compressor but maybe after a few clip I might consider a change.

I'm fairly interested in this one.

Joe, I agree, it looks rubbish (to me anyway) but I can hope it sounds good .

I don't understand why it 'looks rubbish'?

I just don't understand all the b****ing about names and visuals guys.

IMHO I expect pedals from a company like Aguilar to be a professional tool, not a status symbol or designer piece of artwork to make chicks swoon and guitar players jealous.

If they sound great I don't care what they look like or what they're name is.

I know this outlook is completely foreign to 90% of the traffic in the Effects forum.

+1

As long as the pedal does the job Thats all I care about. I don't spend top dollar on a pedal because it looks pretty or has a fancy name.

I think the name is great because it is what it is. A compressor pedal.

looks interesting.. i was impressed with what i saw from the octave from them..

does it run on regular power? if so, even with mediocre performance, that thing is so pedalboard friendly... if it can limit an envelope filter ill take the pluge..

Actually, I agree. I made a joke about the name because if every company called their unit "The Compressor", how would you tell them apart (or why isn't "the compressor" followed by "well, duh")?

But yeah, I prefer "C1, "Tube-Comp" or whatever to "Robot-based Sex God", etc. Lots of companies go for "the stupider, the better" names and graphics to get attention.

I hate gear that uses stupid names for the controls. Use the proper names so anybody can understand them without reading the manual more than once (or never).
