I recently bought a new bass guitar. I am looking into Effects and things because I want it to sound the same as when Wolstenholme is playing Hysteria or Time is Running Out. So I was looking at the Big Muff Pi thing, and I was just wondering if this was a good choice, because right now, when I play notes, it makes this plucking noise that Flea makes.
Thanks! |

| | | Well. When I don't hold down a note, and just play an open string, the sound is long. But when I do, no matter which note I hold, it is short.
Don't know a better way to explain |

Don't know a better way to explain | You probably need to work on technique for a while before getting too hung up on effects..... |

And what is fret buzz? |

| I am guessing that the open strings sound for 4 beats but the fretted notes only sound for 2 beats....?
You are probably not holding the string down firmly enough and not in quite the right place.
Fret buzz is when then string is too close to the fretboard and catches the frets when vibrating.
Go get a few bass lessons!! |

Effects only flavor your tone, it's important to have a strong fundemental understanding of "how" to actually play a bass guitar. Lessons by an expirienced teacher are invaluable, spend your money there, and you'll be on your way.

Ensure that you are placing your fretting finger in the right spot (just before the fret) and pressing hard enough (and READ the stickies in the tech/GI forums and stuff- they are really useful). |

effects it's the cream of the pie, you're just on the eggs and flour stage, friend.
