I guess the only thing I don't like is generic-looking. Bare-bones can be good, ala fairfield circuitry, fancy can be good too. I think the darkglass way of doing it with one big decal that is held on by the pot nuts (at least I think that's how they do it) is a good way to look high class that is (probably) economical and more convenient than painting each one.
Cool thread, I like your approach Mike. |

Don't use the die cast hammond boxes. I know they are easy and readily available, but these are overdone. I personally don't like the fooswitch on the same plane as the knobs. If you can, try to do something unique like what is done by Fulltone, Foxrox, Chunk Systems, etc. I don't know why more effects unit builders don't do this.
pedalenclosures.com has some good "off the shelf" options like the YY or the One.
Small Bear also has an interesting housing with recessed area for the knobs, the Bare Box #1. |

Unfortunately, their enclosures are more than twice as expensive as the ones I currently buy. I'll definitely consider the ONE for the preamp I'm working on as I think that would be a great enclosure for it! But for effects I'm going to have to keep with the standard to keep cost at a reasonable level.
And I've found a supplier that has a battery door that would fit on the front side of an enclosure (125B or 1590BB) and still leave room for the foot switch. So that may be my solution to having the battery option. |

It took me a year to get my custom enclosure right - I had to toss $1200 worth of enclosures because of a small error in the design. |

Ah, but then you have to worry about fake stuff being built. Nevermind.

Don't use batteries, would rather have that space dedicated towards improving the functions of the pedal. Schwag is cool, but not a necessity if the pedal is following a classic format. Deviation from basics would benefit from instructions for quick and easy plug and play. Velcro not necessary for my needs. |

I'm thinking about including a one sided postcard with an intro "thanks for buying... Blah blah blah" a basic overview of the controls and the URL of where you can download a full manual. Anything else that should be included on this card?
And I use boss style power jacks. So that is already covered! | A coupon code for 5% off next purchase could stimulate repeat business.

I'd like them to be on the top side more often. |

No battery. Waste of space and unenvironmental.
Don't need Velcro, have rolls of the stuff.
Dont need printed material (although a stickers always nice). Happy to go online to read a manual.
And like a good looking pedal in some funky colours. |
