New Compressor EBS vs DBX

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi!

I'm going to sell my Behringer Composer Pro rack compressor (too noisy)

my doubt is between EBS multicomp and DBX 166xl

(I tried almost everything and just read all the bongomania website - these are the only 2 I like but I can't find other direct comparisons)

what do you suggest?

EBS multi-comp, man, it's a bit pricey (200 $ US or so) but it's probably the best in term of pedal compressor. Check out their web site and listen to the demos.

I have the Boss CS-3 and I'll trade it for an EBS

Arrivederci :-)

(Sono di Torino! anche tu? se sei su megabass, sono ongaku85)

You are suggesting the Multicomp over the DBX for the trasportability and semplicity of using (doesn't matter for me) or beacuse it sounds better?

I will agree except that the dbx will be better for peak limiting on big spikes, and I think dbx is more reliable over the long term. I would buy a dbx that is 20 years old, but I would not buy an EBS that is 2 years old.

...if I understand well, you're meaning that generally speaking the EBS is also better sounding than the dbx 166 ?

I would get a Maxon CP-9 pro + it's a DBX in a pedal and I like it much better than the EBS.

I just ordered the MultiComp for my small board. Using a Trex Squeezer on the big board, but needed a 9VDC comp for the small one. Went by word of mouth, right here in the fx forums.

Yes, that was my meaning. It's not super different in tone quality, but for example the "tube sim" mode of the EBS is a little warmer and fatter than the dbx, and the "multiband" mode of the EBS is a little more transparent than the dbx.
