The new Digitech BP355.

It's about bloody time Digitech offered an XLR-equipped unit for bass!

http://www.digitech.com/products/Bass/BP355.php

Though I'm pleased with my RP355, speaking as an MIJ Fender VI player, having a choice of the bass-centric BP' or the guitar-centric RP' version of the '355 will be fantastic for we 'VI'ers!

It does have the xlr on the bass unit. Click for the spec sheet.

Also they list the effects there too. It looks like they modeled competitor's effects for this unit, including the Boss OC2 and DOD FX25. Looks interesting...

I hope this one's whammy effect sounds better, the one for the BP200 is pretty horrid for anything other than 1 octave up.

Interesting.

I have a Digitech GNX4 that I use with my guitar and it's been great.

That looks pretty cool. I first saw this multi-effects processor while I was visiting sweet water about a few weeks ago. it's looks pretty cool. I later downloaded the owner's manual to this multi-effects processor. I would of expected that the distortion channels would be based on bass distortion pedals. but apparently they're not based on bass distortion pedals. they have the same distortion channels as the guitar version. but that's okay, I don't mind trying out this multi-effects processor. still it would of been nice if they have distortion channels based on bass distortion pedals. but that's just my honest opinion.

If you want me to purchase the digitech bp355 and record sound samples of it, I'd be glad to do that. if it's ever released, I'll be able to purchase it and make sound samples of it. I will post it on my soundclick website. I have done sound samples of many multi-effects processors on my soundclick website like the korg ax3000b, the rocktron utopia b100, the line 6 bass floor pod, and the zoom b2.1u. here's the link if like to visit my soundclick website.

www.soundclick.com/crystalman85

Feel free to check it out. if you want me to purchase the digitech bp355 and record sound samples of it, If will do that if it's released and if I had the cash for it.

Re distortion: I've got the RP355 for my MIJ Fender VI and the pallet of overdrive & distortion tones available via its various guitar amp & cab combinations breathtakingly surpasses the overdrive tones of the VT Bass I used to own. But of course the VT' kills the RP355 in the cleaner tones dept.

Hopefully the new BP355 will bridge the above gaps.

--------

One more thing: while Digitech ships (Mac & Windows) software which can control the parameters of their various units via MIDI commands, for GNU/Linux users there's this unofficial offering:

"Control your Digitech effect pedal under Linux!
gdigi is tool aimed to provide X-Edit functionality to Linux users

Supported devices (list misses your DigiTech device? Please get in touch!):

* RP250
* RP255
* RP355
* RP500
* RP1000
* GNX3000
* GNX4K

http://desowin.org/gdigi/

Hmm... The download link on that page is currently broken. Those who are interested in gdigi may wish to e-mail the author: <desowin@gmail.com>

In the meantime I have the gdigi-0.2.0.tar.bz2 archive from which I compiled an executable gdigi 2.0 application via these instructions:

"Setup: There're no distribution packages available for gdigi (you're welcome to package it for your distribution of choice).
In order to compile gdigi on Debian/Ubuntu system, issue following commands:"

Code:
sudo apt-get install build-essential libasound2-dev libgtk2.0-dev libglib2.0-dev libexpat1-dev
wget http://d10xg45o6p6dbl.cloudfront.net/projects/g/gdigi/gdigi-0.2.0.tar.bz2
tar xvjpf gdigi-0.2.0.tar.bz2
cd gdigi-0.2.0
make
./gdigi
If any GNU/Linux users here (I've found that gdigi 2.0 works well under 32 bit Ubuntu 10.10 with an RP355) want the gdigi-0.2.0.tar.bz2 archive (~122kB) please contact the author.

(If you can't get through to him, then PM me and I'll e-mail you a copy.)

The one important thing which gdigi can't do yet is save tweaked parameters as a configuration file to a hard drive. However IIRC the author is working on this feature, which (along with alerting him to the release of the new BP355) is why e-mailing him would be a good first move.

It is worth noting that as of three months ago there was no GNU/Linux support available for other competing multi-effects/amp modelling units. I looked...

And since the new BP355 is based upon the RP355, here's a thread I found to be helpful:

Roland makes pedals under the name boss. just like korg makes multi-effects processors under the name toneworks.

Lately I've been interested in purchasing this multi-effects processor. would like to see how it sounds. and if you guys request sound samples of this multi-effects processor, I'd be more than glad to do that. like I've mentioned before, If it's ever released and if I have the cash for it, I will purchase one.

Do you know any guitarists who might have an RP355 for comparison?

No. the guitar players I know uses boss processors, zoom processors, line 6 processors and amplifiers, and a digitech rp90. but judging from the owner's manual and the spec sheet provided by natw42, I would say that the only difference between the rp355 and the bp355 would be the amp models. the rp355 has guitar amp and cab models. while the bp355 has bass amp and cab models. it also has some guitar amp and cab models(I'm guessing they're making this multi-effects processor usable on guitar as well as bass). the fact that the bp355 has bass amp and cab models and distortion channels did start giving me ideas on creating some pretty killer patches. when I purchase this multi-effects processor, I'll make sound samples of it on my soundclick website as well as other effects like chorus effects, flanger effects, etc. looking forward of purchasing one when it's released.

Oh goody...cant wait for your big review of it! I am really excited about this pedal..
Hey MN AirHead, does this pedal use an optical tracker like the whammy 4 or does it use mechanical? Just wondering..Hows the build quality on your guitar version? Is it bar gig tough?
