I'm betting it's going to be a pretty good phaser, especially for bass. The Ross has a great tone and the DOD 490 is the thickest phaser I've tried outside of the Maestro Stage.
Earthquaker is really making a lot of stuff to fill my GAS list. |

aahh...just won bidding on a dod 490 on ebay!! haven't send the money until now, cause the seller doesn't tell me how much is shipping etc
@TheBigO: does the rate of dod 490 go as fast as the earthquaker phaser?
hehe....as I remember you wanted to stay with your good old Smallstone, right? yes, you can.... resist
cheers,

cheers,
merten | No, the 490 doesn't go nearly that fast. But it is such a thick phaser that at the higher rates it is almost too "gloopy" to use. It's hard to tell from guitar clips, but it sounds like the 490 is still a good deal thicker than the Earthquaker.
Actually I think I'm okay not buying phasers for a while. I'm actually going to sell off all but one of the Pigtronix, DOD 490, DOD 595 and I already traded and sold (respectively) my Nano Small Stone and Psylocibe. That actually makes three Nano Stones that have passed through my hands now.
Anyway, I'm going to keep one phaser and sell that off when Mario over at Robot Factory finishes my custom one. |

Earthquaker is really making a lot of stuff to fill my GAS list. | Off thread for one sec....add the Retro-Sonic Phaser to your list. I picked mine up a week ago and LOVE it.

Continue... | It looks like a good one, but honestly I'm just not interested in trying any more script circuit phasers at this point. Part of it is just personal preference with tone (a lot of bassists dig the MXR sound and that's cool - different strokes) but a larger part is just the lack of headroom as find that my active basses clip FET based phasers noticeably. Now if someone made an 18V version, I'd check it out. |

And I'm glad to say that I wasn't disappointed! This might actually replace my current Maestro Phaser, which isn't as thick as the Maestro Stage Phaser, and sure as hell isn't as big!
I really wish more companies/boutique builders would work with phasers. And especially ones not based on the Phase 90. Not saying that it isn't a good phaser, but it's just not for me. And really, there's nothing in the way of ridiculously huge sounding phasers for slow settings. But I guess I'm just being picky.
Anyway, I'd love to hear how this thing sounds on bass. I'm definitely excited!

But I guess I'm just being picky. | I agree. And I find it odd just how many boutique phasers are based on the script circuit. I've even wondered if the Toneczar Halophaze wasn't just the world's most hot rodded script circuit phaser. Again, nothing wrong with that, but if you're like me and don't care for the Phase 45/90 style phasing it really limits your choices.
I've also always wondered why there aren't more (I can't think of any offhand) small stone based boutique phasers.
Of course, in terms of "traditional" effects I think the one you see the least boutique versions of are flangers. Up until very recently I couldn't even name more than two boutique flangers that were still in production. At least not dedicated flangers vs the chorus/flanger combos. |

Not that I'm really into flangers at the moment, but I think I found one I really really liked, I'd stick with it.
Aren't flangers harder to build, though? Or at least, more complicated?
