New to effects, noob questions

I have stepped into the dark side lol.

Just got in my possesion a Hartke VXL Bass Attack, and a EH Bass Big Muff. I also have a Boss multi effect pedal that I have been using for the past few months.

After hooking up the Hartke VXL to my combo amp (Behringer BX1800), there was a really loud hum. I changed out the instrument cables and it solved that problem.

Is it possible to run my other effects off the Hartke? I did hook up my Boss, and was only able to use the tuner. Using the preset effects did not make any difference to the sound. Would I have to shut off the Hartke to be able to use the Big Muff? I would still like to use the Boss, if only for the tuner option.

One final question, this is about the settings on the amp itself. Is this basically a dialing in type of thing? The Hartke has some options that have a direct correlation to the amp itself(Bass, Treble, etc..).

Thanks in advance for any help you can give, I tried searching but could not really find what I was looking for. I wanted to ask in this forum because of the wealth of information.

Ok, I'll try and give you what you need, while allowing you the sake of discovering things for yourself.

You can run any number of pedals from any number of pedals. Sometimes, this makes a desirable combo to create a new sound( Boss OC-2 Octave Pedal into Big Muff = Synthy fuzzy goodness).

Your amp settings should not have to change when a pedal is turned on. That is what the knobs on the pedal are for. If you have tone/anything else, tweek the knobs till you get it sounding like you want.

Thanks, just needed the basics for some reason. Honest, I was not trolling on this one. Have already spent some time experimenting.

I appreciate the answer, thanks again!
