I want another envelope filter.
Any recommendations for top shelf, quality stuff?

I currently own an EBS Bass IQ that I'm very happy with.

I've listened to their demos, really liked it. The new MXR bass enveloppe filter also gets good reviews.

For now, I'm using a pair of DOD FX25's: one first-issue (as used bby Flea at one point) and a more recent issue and they both sound great, though quite different.

I got a Digitech Bass Synth Wah off the Bay, should get it this week. Looking forward to settings #1 and #2, the rest is mostly synthy stuff I don't plan using much.

I also have a Bassballs, which is currently being modded to give me outside access to the trimpots. God that tech is taking forever !

Prospects ? Probably a Boss FT-2.

I'm one of the straighter filter users... wait 'till you get feedback from the real filter users. There's a lot of wild stuff out there !

Hey JC,

Having tried many filters, I settled on the Bass IQ and like you was also very happy with it. However I was seduced by the MXR, which to me was evry bit as good, as wet, but sounder warmer and lets your bass sound like your bass withour too much coloring, I guess in large part to the dry mix. It's my new number one! If you can try it fist it would be best but so far it's getting lots of love around here.

Guys, which one does the best auto-wah ? I know there's such a setting on the EBS, but how does it sound ? And what about the MXR ?

i love envelope threads! gives me yet ANOTHER chance to wax lyrical about the merits of the emma discumBOBulator.. absolutely cracking filter in my humble opinion!
i got an old q tron + that ive had modded with a volume control to keep them spikes in check ; ) sounds awesome with a fuzz or modulation effects in its loop..

I just bought O! Henry's Chunk Systems 00Funk and am looking forward to it. Haven't played one but was real impressed with what I heard on Ed Friedland's review video. Hopefully I can make it sound half that good. Was GASing for the MXR but figure I can sell the 00Funk and get the MXR if I'm not digging it.

I really like my EHX Qballs Enigma, but there is one thing about it that has kind of eluded me to this point. I have been able to find good/great sounds both with and without the distortion. However, I have yet to find a single setting that I like both with the distortion on and off. IOW, settings that sound good with the distortion on are too subtle when you turn the distortion off. Conversely, settings that sound good with the distortion off are too overpowering with the distortion on.

Overall, these are minor complaints which do nothing to hinder my enthusiasm for the pedal....I LOVE IT. It is a very "wet" and in-your-face effect, but subtle tones can be had with judicious use of the blend control. It is also a very versatile pedal, I found a good 5-6 very different, but awesome, sounds with it in the first couple of days after I got it. However, I was hoping to be able to use it for two different sounds in a live setting, and, so far, it doesn't look like I will be able to do that. I've only had the pedal for a week, so it's possible that I just haven't found it yet. But, for those seeking a 2-in-1 filter, I'm not sure this is it. For those looking for a powerful filter with lots of good tones and tweakability, the Enigma is an awesome pedal.

the 3-leaf or 00funk is what i recommend if you need more than the fx-25b.

wow I've only been in the effects forum for about a month and it's looking like the "What envelope filter should I get" threads are just like the "which bass is best for metal" in the basses forum, lol.

My take on it? I honestly don't think there are very many bad envelope filters out there but there are loads of different ones. Everyone wants something slightly different out of their filter so asking "what envelope filter I should buy" will have every guy out there suggesting whatever filter he likes simply because he like it. You gotta give us something to go on so we know what you're after. Do you want synthy, funky, flat out wierd, or all three? Trust me, it's a lot easier to find something when you know what it is you're looking for.

while I wish it did, the EBS BASSIQ does NOT have an auto-wah mode. Maybe you're thinking about the modulated lowpass filter mode of the EBS TremoLo?

My current 2 favs are the Emma and WMD Fatman. I suggest giving both a run.

I'm thinking to get an env filter. I tempted to get a used EBS Bass IQ (approx 110$) or new MXR bass envelope filter (approx 140$). Any idea which one is better ?

Sorry, my mistake, they call it "Hi Q" in the latest edition, which has true bypass. The manual mentions that "this mode is also know as auto-wah".

Does the Hi Q mode do a decent auto-wah ?
