Im thinking of getting either the MXR 6 band or the Boss GE-7 (guitar version) as I like the frequency controls on both............

I have heard the boss but not the MXR, has anyone had experiece with both? If so what would you say about them and which would you recomend overthe other?

Cheers

They're equal. No quality or tone difference worth reporting.

can i just ask, why would one prefer the guitar version of an EQ pedal over the bass version?

different notch frequencies.

because a guitar operates at a different band of the EQ, the frequencies of the EQ might be a bit higher

(example: a bass EQ might have sliders for 40, 80 ,200,400,1000 and 2000hz, this is too low for most guitarists, who would benefit more with a mid or treble focused EQ)

as to why he would prefer it, maybe some people like to cut certain frequencies that aren't present on a bass EQ

yeah the ranges on the guitar ones are better spread out and more usefull in my view

also the only real difference with the boss versions is that the lowest on the bass version is 50hz instead of 100hz, which lower than i would want to boost or cut anyway.....................

Would anyone suggest anything else for the price, to use as a tone shaper/pre-amp???

For the price of those, used, almost the only other option to suggest is the Behringer BDI121. If you're willing to go a bit higher, like in the $100 range, the options open up more.
