New Flanger - Toadworks Barracuda

Sign in to disble this ad
I was looking at the Toadworks site and I noticed they had a new product, the Barracuda Analog Flanger. It has the standard controls (level, depth, regen, rate). Also, I found it very cool that there is an expression pedal out. This looks like it could be a very successful pedal. Here's a pic

Seems like boutique flangers are pretty rare (compared to a ton of other pedals), I've been watching rumors of this one for awhile. I've not seen an actual pedal, sample, or review yet.

Perfect name - like the Heart song. I want one to replace my 1981 ADA.

Cool, Toadworks makes good stuff.

My Psilocybe has been pissing me off lately, I was going to replace it with something from Toadworks too...

Yes I know the difference between phasers and flangers, but they fulfill similar needs for me.

If I remember correctly, they worked with one of the guitar players from that song when they developed this pedal.

If the expression pedal can be set to control the regeneration, I think that would be awesome in an "I could really use that in a tune" way.

A quick visit to the Toadworks site later:

Barracuda is designed for use with an Expression Pedal - Connecting the Expression Pedal to the Exp. Pedal jack will disable the LFO, and the expression pedal becomes a manual sweep controller.

Just got my Psilocybe yesterday and have been enjoying the heck out of it. What shortcomings have you found with it?

(Sorry for going off topic, now back on track....)

I wouldn't mind picking the Barracuda up and trying it out. Anyone find any samples with a bass?

It's getting a little buried in the mix in my band, I think I need something more dramatic. Not the pedal's fault I suppose, maybe my dumbass just needs to crank the regen a bit more for certain parts.

Nah, most phasers tend to get lost in the mix. The best phaser I've ever enjoyed on my bass that didn't disappear in a band setting was....

(i embarassed)...

The Behringer VP1 I know it sounds lame, but I AB'd it against a USA Small Stone in our band, and it beat the Stone by a landslide. Thicker, more defined on bass (on both color switches), and better cut-through. Only thing the SS won on was the construction. The Behringer WAS metal, but it was a cheap plastic knob and switch.

ON TOPIC:

Toadworks makes some sweet stuff, and I'd be excited to try this one out. It might finally make me a flanger fan I've never liked a full flange on bass.

I sent an email to Toadworks about the Barracuda asking about when it might be available and how much it would cost. I heard back today:

"Hi Mark

It's going to be a couple months - our EE tore his Achilles tendon right
before NAMM, so he's been out of the office for a couple months. He's back
in the saddle now, and we're working on finishing it up.

MAP should be around $250...

Cheers
Ryan"

I didn't expect it to be that much considering the price of most toadworks pedals.

Cheap compared to most boutique flangers I'd fork up a bit more and get small TZF when they are released

I'm definitely going to get a smaller TZF when it comes out. I hear they're going to be ZIM rather than Octron sized.

I'm in talks of getting a custom flange for 150 at the moment. How's that for a deal?

I can't wait to hear someone here to do clips of this one though. Looks very interesting, especially the manual sweep.
