New Guy Needs Help

I'm pretty new on the bass scene, only played for a year now. My rig consists of a Sterling Ray34 and an Acoustic B100.
I'm looking to get a different sound, kinda like Burn Burn by Lostprophets, or Three Days Grace when they covered The Chain. (links respectively).

So, I thought I'd ask this great community how I would go about that.
I am open to any all suggestions for different sounds as well.

Lost Prophets sounds like an overdrive or distortion to my ears, however I am listening through some small laptop speakers so it could just be that the amp was cranked.

3 Days Grace sounds like a flanger or perhaps a phaser was used during the solo. Again it's hard to tell with my speakers.

At least it's a starting point.

I think the lost prophets tune is pretty much just eq'd bass played with a pick, maybe some slight overdrive.
3 days grace sounds like overdrive with slight flanger possibly.
not 100% on those, hell i could be dead wrong, but thats what i'm hearing at least
