New guy question sorry if it is on the forum

I got a quick (maybe) question. I'm sorry if this already a thread on the forum I just went through 6 pages and some bad google links to find the answer. I am looking to add one more effect to my set up. I am a beginner with some experience maybe an intermediate player.

I have a Mike Dirnt P-bass (not the squier) with an Ampeg amp. I just bought a MXR-80 Eq with distortion and a DigiTech XBC Bass Multi Chorus Pedal (both are sent UPS so I don't have them until Tuesday). I am thinking of adding one more. Not sure how good the distortion is on the MXR-80 so a Big Muff for fuzz might be an option. My other choice is Tech 21 XXL Bass Edition Overdrive Stompbox with Warp. I am afraid I might be getting the completely wrong pedal and should get a phase or soemthing. Am I being redundent or is there something I should get instead. I have an old BOSS DOD multi-pedal setup not very good but I could get maybe a decent synth or something out of it (just not adjustable. Any other choices? Looking to play classic 70's to heavy metal, hard rock.

Thanks in advance
Brent

The M-80 does a very grainy distortion, which can be useful, depending on what you play. I wouldn't find a fuzz redundant at all with it, it's really apples and oranges. I've owned the XXL though, and my advice would be to steer clear of it. Tons of low end loss, crappy transitory tone, that's all it's good for. I don't see why the M-80 wouldn't do what the XXL would do but better. But that's me.

Tech 21 VT Bass Pedal or MXR M182 El Grande Bass Fuzz Pedal any comment on either of these choices? Should I take a completely different route or is distortion a good choice? I am glad I came here first. Thanks

If your Ampeg is a solid-state model (as opposed ot the more expensive tube models), IMO the VT Bass should do wonders for your sound if you want to sound close to an Ampeg tube amp. Adds plenty of nice dirty overdrive too.

Only problem is, you may end up wanting 2 (one for dirt, one for cleaner sounds)

Here are my two other choices. I listened to them on youtube last night. I am leaning toward the MXR subtle distortion. I like the dry/clean version of the Big Muff maybe has more options not sure. Any opinions on these two? MXR M182 El Grande Bass Fuzz Pedal or Electro-Harmonix Bass Big Muff Pi Distortion Effects

I have an El Grande fuzz. Well built, useful pedal....if you are looking for major FUZZ. Also does a good job of retaining the bottom-end with the bass boost engaged.

Thay don't call it the "El Grande" for nothing!!
