new here/bass wah?

Sign in to disble this ad
hi folks, i'm new here. i'm from the Cleveland area, and ive been playing bass for 10 years. i play mostly metal and rock.

i'm looking for a good bass wah. ive been looking at the Dunlop Bass Crybaby, and the Snarling Dogs Bootsy signature.

no place around here stocks these pedals, or ANY bass wahs, so i cant try them out.

the regular Dunlop Crybaby is half the price of the bass one... i was thinking about just getting one of those, but im afraid that it's going to rob some bottom end.

i'm going for a Black Sabbath/Sleep/Church of Misery sound.

i'm open to other pedals too, ive seen some Morleys and whatnot.

For Sabbath, if you wanna go authentic, you're looking at the pricey Chicago Iron's Parachute Wah.

The Bootsy products usually get pretty low reviews around here based on their apparently fruit fly-esque lifespan.

Lot's of fans of the Dunlop stuff, but there's a good deal of other products out there by boutique manufacturers that may give you more satisfying results.

Take a look at the Ibanez Weeping Demon. It works really well for bass and has a ton of adjustability.

Welcome to the board

if you use the search function you will likely find literally hundreds of threads on this very subject

If you want a wah that is fairly simple to operate and you don't want to worry about mechanical parts breaking go with an optical wah

that said the Snarling Dogs wah sounds incredible but, it has tons of mechanical issues if you buy be prepaed to learn how to put it back together from time to time...lol

Morley has a very nice line of optical wahs...

I myself prefer the Ibanez Weeping Demon wah....it is not marketed to bass players however it does have bass specific settings and it does old school as well as new school with auto shutoff...as well as being able to adjust the filter sweep...it allows for a lot of user custom settings

YMMV as some people with active basses have complained about it....but i have several active basses and it works great with them

good luck

For the Parapedal sound (Geezer), without the Chicago Iron price, check out a Wilson Effects Freaker Wah.

Ditto on the Wilson Freaker Wah. It can do Geezer perfectly. My bandmates have been getting annoyed with my endless wanking on the bass solo from N.I.B.
