| | | | Interesting they say the circuitry is identical to the BBM while some say here that the voicing is different. Maybe the same circuit with different components? |

Of course, with the crossover/fliter section, it's a whole different beast. I'd still prefer an improved tone control and maybe a mid boost switch... |

| | | Honestly, I have no issue if the default tone is identical, purely for the advantages of the blend knob and crossover. Also hearing more of the crossover, I'm liking the resonance, thinking of all sorts of benefits to it.
My wife even gave me the go ahead to sell the BBM and get the Deluxe, thanks to the EHX demo |

The only thing I don't like much about it is the high pass filter. Just too harsh and thin sounding past 12 o'clock. The filters have a strong Q resonance but with just a fair amount of sustain and the blend knob past 12 o'clock, it starts to get buried. The basic voicing reminds me of the Bass Big Muff I once owned but the blend knob and the crossover section do make a difference.
I had to keep the tone knob very low and crank up the highs on my preamp to keep a somewhat flat response. Otherwise turning the tone knob CW, I get the famous mid scoop the big muff is known for.
All in all, I'm happy with it. I can tweak it a lot and there are nice features (xlr DI out, dB pad, etc.) but it won't bring one of my fuzzes out of my collection.
Here's a crappy shot of my favorite settings so far (crossover engaged).

To clarify. How hard would it be to move stuff around, and change it from landscape to portrait?

| | | | so what are your favourite settings on this one? i just got mine a few days ago and still don't really know how to handle the crossover function, i have the feeling it just sucks some low end but does not really support the sound...
my favourite settings so far:
blend - 2 o'clock
tone - full counterclockwise
sustain - 4 o'clock
gate - 9 o'clock
crossover - off!
i use it for some stoner stuff as well as for d'n'b.
i use a p bass with seymour duncan quarter punders into vt bass into poweramp.. |

When would you use one vs the other? |

| | | | Got my Deluxe last night, so here are some first impressions.
The Deluxe definitely sounds identical to the standard BBM, didn't notice any difference while A/B testing several settings. What does change things is using the -10dB pad, it does make things a bit more subtle.
Need more time to explore the crossover, which I think will be my primary benefit from the pedal (well, that and the blend knob). Seems to work best at around 9 o'clock, which boosts the low mids enough to keep the low frequency of the clean signal when it gets mixed with the blend knob. Makes me think I would have preferred separate wet and dry knobs, that would have made the crossover vastly more useful, since otherwise the low frequency is by definition being mixed out.
A bit more exploration and I'm sure I'll figure out what will make things work best for me. Still need to try the Muff after my Compressor.

Biggest surprise is how well it works as an overdrive. The crossover rocks. Makes it sound larger than life. I now have a sweet synth sound running an MXR bass compressor into a EHX octave multiplexer (yes, I really like the multiplexer) into the bbmd and then my trusty 3leaf GR1. Much easier and much more natural mixing of clean tone. Lots of flexibility in this pedal.

| | | | Simon, what settings did you find work for a subtle overdrive?

| | | | try this for subtle overdrive:
blend - 2 o'clock
tone - 11 o'clock
sustain - between 8 & 9 o'clock
gate - off
lpf - all the way counterclockwise
hpf - 10 o'clock
works well for me and it doesn't really matter if the crossover is on or off. |

Playing a clean gig and need a noise gate? Turn the blend knob all the way to the dry side and use the noise gate of the Big Muff!
