New Jacks for Aphex Xciter

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys,
I think I asked about this a year ago, but I'm asking again in case the answer's changed.

Does anyone know of a pedal modder that will put new jacks on my Aphex Bass Xciter? A new case will be needed as well, in order to fit the new jacks.

Don't all chime in at once now.

Why do you want new jacks put in? Just about any modder should be able to do this.

Mine needs a new switch because the current one is very noisy. I was planning on doing it myself but I have not opened the case up yet to see how complex it is. If the jacks are not soldered directly to the board you might be able to do it yourself.

I would bet that the jacks and everything else, save perhaps the stomp, are board-mounted. But desoldering isn't that hard - just don't tear it out!

Edit: actually, I can confirm that everything including the stomp is board-mounted.

Yeah, I just opened mine up and checked. Probably not something the OP would want to mess with unless he is really handy with a soldering iron.

I am AWFUL with a soldering iron.

I asked two pedal modders a year ago and both said no. Then I asked a third one, who said yes, and then proceeded to really mess things up customer service wise without doing any work on the pedal.

Do you recommend anyone in particular?

You might try Humphrey Audio Mods. I sent him a couple of pedals to mod and he did a great job. Turned them around quickly too.

Aphex should really consider updating their pedals, or even having a more expensive, sturdier version. The foot switch and jacks are both flakey. Pity because the electronics are great.

I have my Punch Factory "hardwired" to my pedalboard with the input running from a volume pedal so there's no plugging/unplugging into either the Input nor Output, but I agree that they really could be "beefed up" - if I was running it first in my signal chain and had to constantly plug in-and-out, I can certainly imagine wear-'n-tear happening fairly quickly.

Send it to Aphex for repair. The customer service used to be really good.

I wish! I've tried contacting them twice and received no reply either time.
