NEW!! JHS Bass Effect Pedals. Pics!

Sign in to disble this ad
Let me start out by saying I am not affiliated with JHS pedals in any way. I just randomly came across their site, thought it looked awesome and asked Josh if it'd be ok for me to make a post about his stuff here on TB. He said, "Post away."

So a few days ago I stumbled across JHSpedals.com I was checking out their stuff and was surprised I had never heard of them (considering the countless hours I spend on here checking out every brand of effects known to man and reading everything I can about them). I friggin LOVE the looks of these pedals. So after spending a few hours checking out sound clips and just basically oogling them, I emailed Josh (the owner) to ask him about his boost pedals and if they would be good for bass etc. He emailed me back and said that they were getting ready to release a series of bass-specific pedals. Boost, Compressor, Fuzz, Overdrive. Sweet.

He said they were looking for a release date sometime in February but that they could be custom ordered right now for no additional cost. (I don't currently know the cost of any of them except the bass boost I was inquiring about but I just emailed him asking that very question. I'll also wait to post pricing info because I know TB has some serious rules about that kind of stuff)

Anyways, here's some eye-candy for everyone.

BLUE ONE = Low Drive Bass Overdrive
GREEN ONE = Lime Aid Bass Compressor
YELLOW ONE = Four Wheeler Bass Fuzz

This is the guitar boost that he said the bass boost would look essentially the same. I know I'm excited. I love these little enclosures.

So anyways, when I order boost pedal (and any others that I can convince my wife I "need" to buy ) and have a chance to check it out I'll post a review.

I think these look cool. I'm also especially interested in his Tremolo pedals.

What do you guys think?

i like the sparkly green. the matching led's get on my nerves, though. and i'd like to see a little more effort in the artwork. that's fine if you're building pedals for yourself, but i like pretty things

I was thinking this was going to be a "John Hornby Skewes" post. Odd.

+1 for Garforth-based distributor confusion.

Although the only JHS-branded pedal I've seen was a '60s treble booster.

SCORE!!! I was just talking to Josh about a Little Black Buffer the other day, and I was going to ask about his Pulp 'N Peel compressor.
I, personally, love having nondescript mystery pedals as well as beautiful art on by board.

Hmm... I'd like to know more about the comp, obviously. With a name like "Pulp 'N Peel", and a citrus wedge graphic, it must be an Orange Squeezer clone; but the V/B/C control layout is atypical for OS's, so I wonder what his variations are. Also I haven't been happy with the B string response of bass-modded OS's yet, so I hope someone beats those odds sometime.

Yeah the Pulp 'N Peel is an Orange Squeezer clone.
I just emailed him about the Lime Aid to see if it was essentially the Pulp 'N Peel optimized for bass.
He's gotta get tired of hearing from me eventually

The Pulp n Peel is NOT an Orange Squeezer clone. It IS derived from the vintage idea and circuit though. Is as much a clone of the Orange Squeeze as a Fulldrive is a Tubescreamer. I love the Orange Squeeze and as you can see on the site I even show one beside my compressor. Gotta give props! There are SEVERAL big changes and additions that make it a very original and effective pedal.
Glad you guys are here! Cool forum!

I never get tired of questions! ;-) Thanks!!!

No affiliation with those guys. They had some cool designs though! Now they are just a music retail out of the UK.
My initials are JHS as well.

And now I feel like a big ole' D. Thanks for setting me straight, I blame Seth from Wavorly.
Now I have to buy a Lime Aid just to redeem myself.

TBH JHS never designed anything - they only badged up budget gear from the far east with their logo. They were always just a distributor.

OK, fair enough. FWIW I'm perfectly comfortable calling the Fulldrive a Tubescreamer clone. The word "clone" has different interpretations--some people use it to mean a direct copy with no (or minimal) changes, and some people use it to mean a derivative that is based on a significant portion of the earlier design.

So let me ask this as an obsessed fan and occasional modder of the Orange Squeezer: Have you managed to get it to pass 31 Hz without much drop in relative level? Is the "B" knob a bias or a blend? What are your changes and additions?

Thanks for popping in!

As for the cloning thing... That's what I meant.. The Fulldrive isn't a clone. It is a derivative of the Tubescreamer... My Pulp N Peel is the same principle. I believe a clone is a clone. EXACT copy.

The Lime Aid will hit 31 hz nicely. The "B" is for blend. The Blend also helps in this when using 5 string basses.

The additional changes are in the compression ratio, noise fixes, and voltage section.
