I read that the other day and thought, I'll have to hear it to believe it. I thought the article was horrible, I would like a list off all the fx on each model so I could actually know what was on there. End rant. The rocktron multi looked interesting.

Does Line6 advertise in BP? I stopped reading it again so I don't know, but if they do there is no real way to trust any review in a mag on a company that advertises in it. That and I have gotten all exited too many times reading a review and totally bummed out when I tried the thing when it sucked monkey-balls. And liked too many things that have gotten bad or so-so reviews.

As for line6 as a whole sound wise I'm not a big fan, I really tried to like their stuff but there is something missing in the sound of every thing of theirs I've heard. If you [or anyone] likes line6 that's fine, but their stuff just bores me.

You know, I can't remember a single negative review of anything from the couple of years I got BP. They definitely aren't helpful with pedals, but they love almost every piece of gear and CD.

Do you mean the Bass PODLiveXT? I have one, and use it for a bit of amp modeling recording here and there. Some of the effects are OK (the Brassmaster emulation is actually REALLY good). But the synth patches suck IMHO. It IS a handy unit though, but overall I'd say it lives up to it's price tag---lots of bells and whistles for not much dough, but none of the sounds are remarkable at all and many are just useless.
I'd never use it live unless I wanted to deal with running truly separate signals to the house so I could have the POD out of my "clean" signal path and didn't have to rely on it--I don't trust the thing frankly as far as build and reliability, and the sound seems like there's a veil over it.

Years ago I special-ordered a CD from the UK that got a glowing review in BP - I still haven't forgiven them.

Atom Seed - Get In Line. Hear an mp3 here to see why I still hold a grudge.

Is it a UK chili peppers cover band?

absolutely nothing on it that deserves a special order, especially from a bass player view...

Well, it's not a big stretch to claim to be one of the best bass synths in that price range because most of the competing units are subpar.

Still, aside from the expected tracking issues, the synths are okay. A dedicated synth like the BMS tracks better but costs as much as a used Line 6 while only doing one thing.

+1.

Myself personally, I don't believe anything I read in a review until I've heard it from my own fingers and ears. What ed friedland might call 'clarity' i might call 'blandness' and so on.

Plus, yes, a lot of their reviews read like commercials.

Ya know, what I like about TB is that people who play bass for a living rather than advertise in a magazine can tell me the truth. I also like TB because people are willing to trade pedals based on what they've heard here and know the true value of gear.

I don't trust magazines, nor do I trust hype, or even brand preference. Line 6 makes some dog pedals, but there are a few that stand above that mark ( I personally like the Line 6 spider series I have in my room. Don't gig with it, but it's a kickass guitar amp and I recommend it to any bassist wanting to take up a guitar and do it right the first time.)

Nifty...that sucks man, you got gyped. I never gave it a full listen, and honestly, i'm glad I saved those precious seconds to write about how much the little I listened to sucked.

I only read BP for the articles/interviews. Sometimes they bring to light gear that I didn't know about, but other than that, I much prefer TB for my gear reviews, thank you very much!

(sometimes I check out Harmony Central as well )

No, I think this is a little different. I had a pod XT and didnt like it. Maybe this is different. I love the synths on the filter pro, and filter modeler

+1 ...I'm with you Mark...I like Bass Player Mag for some of the articles, etc...but the reviews of effects in that mag are weak. I also remember they did an envelope filter/auto wah review, and in it stated that the Ashdown pedal was really good, and that the MXR Bass Auto Q was True Bypass..I wonder if they really do their homework before they write some of this stuff...

BP, TB, HCBF, other bass mags/forums. None of these are reliable sources of information. It has been said that advice on an online forum is worth exactly what you pay for it. And of course, mag reviews must take advertising dollars into consideration.

But an informed decision can be arrived at by taking all the info in and separating the wheat from the chaff.
