From the folks at Barge Concepts.

I was good until I got to $400.

There will be a decent discount for mailing list members, and the Barge Concepts people are stand up guys who make solid pedals, so ...

Do you use the McMeat schematic and PCB ? I plan to make one myself. Simple circuit with cabling hell.
How good is this thing on bass ?

Normally I would agree, but I don't think Barge does any non-direct sales (aka: no dealer network). Time will tell. As a side note, these guys currently have my Meatball, they are using it as a second example for final QA testing.

I think grygrx is right on this one. I was looking forward to this one, but the price is kinda putting me off. I could get a lot of pedal for that money.

Roger that! I got defeated in my first attempt.
Some guy has done a circuit board pattern of this with PCB mounted pots. If you google hard enough you'll find it. I'm gonna give that a shot next.

yup, found it on diystompboxes forum. Definitely worth to try as I'm not rich enough to spend > 400$ for a pedal.

Keep in mind that the schematic is confirmed correct, so if it doesn't work, you made a mistake... ergo, follow the schem and it will work .

I haven't finished mine, will do next week somewhere.

As for on-topic, I really believe $400 is a very good price to pay. Barge have always put out quality stuff and the original was going for something like that... Also the original is by no means perfect and they might of corrected some of its "quirks". The original was fantastic, and this one might just be better. although it will never have the cult status of the original.

Peace

Just got an email from Geoff at Barge that $400 will be the actual price on the unit. If I have the dough hanging around (doubtful ), I'll definitely jump on the mailing list preorder discount when it comes time.

I am not surprised by the price at all. Good analog filters are generally expensive. This one will probably be the cream of the crop. Frankly, I can't see how Barge Concepts would want to charge anything less.

The thing that's really appealing to me (other than the fact that it's basically a Meatball but cheaper) is the fact that it's so much smaller than the original Meatball.

Have you heard of the Robot Factory Meatwad?

Here you go.

Much smaller even than the Barge Concepts. Cheaper too. Due to the price and size, I will likely go the Robot Factory route. It doesn't have 7 knobs and 4 switches, so yeah, its not quite as versatile. But after working with Mario who runs Robot Factory, and after purchasing one of his pedals, I'm willing to bet that the majority of what your really sacrificing is a factory finish.

Drop $100, several square inches of real estate, and this is what you get.

I was really interested in the Meatwad, but last I had read he was still doing different mods and alterations- it didn't seem like he had a solid product laid out. Has that changed? I know that Barge won't put it out until it's exactly what they want, and I imagine that would be tone-wiise almost identical to the Meatball.

As far as I know, he's found the version that he's content with after tweaking requests from PRSBass. It never hurts to shoot Mario an email and ask, after all.

The schematic of the McMeat is correct, but the component list is a little off. Some of the components used in the original are really hard to track down...

So even if you did follow the schematic, it wouldn't sound quite like the real thing.

HEY! FACTORY FINISH?!

Hey guys........

The barge grinder looks good........

(BTW the MeatWad has 7 switches if you count the 3 on the sides).......they privide the same functionality as the 4 switches, but take up less space than rotorys, which is why I went that route.....

I did not look, but I would imagine the 7th knob is a boost/cut (active volume), which I have done for people who asked for it

Anyway, the main difference would likely be that you would have to choose which of the 'extra jacks' you want, because my tiny little box just cannot support them all. I have squeezed fx loop, expression, and external trigger into a single MeatWad.................

As for the guys building them, the hard part is scaleing the rest of the circuit to suit the optos you have. If don't know much about electronics, spend the extra money to get the right vactrols................

Also, I am quite settled on the MeatWad circuit at this point, and they will continue to pop up on Ebay from time to time.

Thanks for the shout snakes!......
.....how is the White Russian treating you?

-Mario

BTW, if size really does matter the MeatWad is exactly 1/2 the size.................
