Ok so i just got my whammy n i love the detune effect. I read up on it n i know it messes with the tuning slightly. If i use it in a song will it sound alright?

Yeah. Just have to try it out and see if it fits the song you're playing.

The detune setting mixes a pitch shifted signal with the original signal. Shallow being a slight shift and deep being a bigger shift. Sometimes it's going to work, other times it might not fit so well.

But then you would just have your clean signal?

It will sound a bit like a chorus. People have been using chorus on bass for as long as they've been back-combing their hair and putting on eyeliner.

I don't think it's possible to some up the effect better than that.
