New Octave FX unit ..?????

Sign in to disble this ad
hey out there ... getting rid of my 5 string ... staying with the 4 ... so ....

i'm looking for a new Octave type FX unit ... but there's the catch ... i'd like to be able to use this on my hybrid electric guitar also ..!!

considering ... Aguilar Octamizer , POG2 , EBS , Boss OC-3 .

this will be used mostly for bass ... in the studio ...
but the ability to work on guitar also would be a big plus ..!

thanks for any suggestions ..!!!!!!!

take care;
Dave C.

The POG2 and OC-3 are designed to work with bass/guitar, not sure about the Octamizer or OctaBass working with guitar though.

What features are you looking for?
Analog or digital?
Pedal size constraints?
Power constraints?
Price range? (probably the most important)

the tone/level controls on the Aguilar look usefull ...

size doesn't matter ... studio use ..

analog or digital ... not sure ...

the ability to Save patches looks very interesting on the POG2

the different INs/Outs of the Boss look usefull ...

it just seems that there isn't one that has ALL the usefull features ... especially for studio use ... if it was for live , i'd want the simplest ... like the EBS ..

but i want to experiment with guitar / bass ....

guess i should try a few from a store with a user friendly Exchange/return policy ..!!

keep the thoughts coming ..

thnx ... DC

is the POG2 really worth the 200 More dollars than the Boss OC-3 ... hust for the basic octave sound ..??

i realize they will both work for guitar ... but i don't need Organ type sounds ... keysboards are my main instrument ..

the POG2 looks to have a large variety of possibilities for bass and guitar ... ?? $$$ hmmm

i would think the Micro Pog would be a better comparison to the OC-3 ... it's only 100 bucks more ...

thanks for any imput ..

imo, the pogs are completely different to most other octavers on the market (Ebs octabass, boss OC2/3, MXR bass octave deluxe, EHX Octave Multiplexer)

I've had 2 Micropogs, 2 OC2s, 2 OC3s and i'm currently using the POGII and a MXR BOD

the analog (ok the OC3 is digital, but im including it anyway) have poorer tracking and generally cant track polyphonically, but as far as PHAT subs go: they're the winners.

to me, the pogs sound more like you're using extra strings on the bass rather than pure low-end heft. Hence why I use both. To my ears, even the POGII with its extra octaves, LPF and detune features cant make up for it.

I'd go for the boss, or for a bit more, the MXR (two octave down tones that are blendable - one more electronic, one more organic)

If you're looking for the ultimate in flexability (not to mention a high price) the EHX HOG or Eventide PitchFactor are amazing.

If you're looking for great-sounding middle of the road, the EHX POG, EHX POG2, Foxrox Octron, and Digitech Whammy are all great options.

If you're looking for a simple octaver with a relatively low price, the EHX Micro POG, MXR Bass Octave Deluxe, MI Pollyanna, or BOSS OC-2 are all great options.

IMO/IME and YMMV of course.
The two that I am using are the Eventide PitchFactor and the Foxrox Octron 2 (same as the Octron, but switchable on/off octave up, octave down, and dry signal).
