I have:
Phase 90
tech21 sans amp bass driver
Ibanez SB7
BBE green screamer
I am getting:
EHX stereo electric mistress
EHX micro POG
Fulltone OCD
I am picking up the Fulltone tomorrow, the POG should be in by tuesday, and who know when the mistress will get here...she was hard to find and now I wait for EHX to get back to the SPO Dept...
What I need to know is:
1) I the misstress going to make my phase 90 usless? I don't really know if the sounds will be so similar that one won't get used...
2) the order? I know this is the mother of all dead horse topics but I am truly lost and each of the suggestion sites have different opinions on the matter...I would try different orders myself but I can't at the moment mainly because I don't have everything yet...
Thanx

Andrew | Well...
1.) It'd only replace the phase 90 if you like flanging more than you do 4-stage phasing. They are similar sounding, but there is a difference to be sure. I'll let some of the more technically crazy people on here explain that one... But I would think that keeping both of them wouldn't be a bad idea, unless you don't like your phase 90.
2.) It's the age-old answer of whatever sounds best to you is how you should set them up...
That being said... what has worked for me in the past is Filters and OD/Dist/Fuzz first, then modulators (that means phase, flange, chorus, ring mod, et all), then everything else like loopers, delays, octavers, etc.
But seriously, don't just follow this and go with it. Everyone is always saying that you should try things out because what may work for us might not work for you. Plus it's always better to move things around to your liking, or for whatever setup that you need - like for instance playing covers of famous bands or something where you want to sound exactly like them or something like that. Experiment, and above all, have fun with it! |

any tech guy whant to explain the difference? |

But technical details aside... don't stress about the order. You have to try it out yourself. Generally, most people place modulation pedals at the end of the chain (delay, phasing, flanging, chorus, etc.). Envelope filters and synthesizer-type pedals are popular at the front of the chain, but whether you put it before or after distortion is up to your own tastes. Personally, I prefer synth pedals and envelope filters after distortion.
As for the Micro POG, I'd put that at the front, without question. Feeding octaves into distortion is an awesome sound, IMO.
This is just a sample order, based on my tastes. It probably wouldn't be a bad starting point for your own pedal order:
AMP <= EHX Stereo Electric Mistress <= MXR Phase 90 <= Ibanez SB7 <= BBE Green Screamer <= Fulltone OCD <= EHX Micro POG =< BASS
This way, you take full advantage of the Mistress' stereo outputs. Whether you'll prefer flanging or phasing (or both) is something you'll find out shortly when you get your Mistress. IME, phasers and flangers can sound similar at low settings, but they're very different as you turn them up.
I'm not sure where to advise you with the BDDI. It could go at the end to serve as a DI, or earlier in the chain if you're using it as an overdrive pedal.

btw I let go of my green screamer...the OCD is just that amazing...although the green screamer was a really useful pedal and it did track my low notes well...I really only needed one OD and the fulltone was just...well a freakin' fulltone...I can't really explain it any other way...
I still have no word of when my mistress is going to get in and i have to wait until monday to call for another follow up on it I hate waiting...but on the plus side the POG should be here by tuesday...
I am gonna put the tech21 at the end simply because I travel with a drumline and I am gonna run straight into a PA for that with no amp...seems like a plan
Now comes the new dilemma...a compressor...the addiction just never ends I am gonna take one of my days off and spend it at work playing with everything in stock...focusrite and presonus have a few that I was told were pretty good and then after a few hours of playing with those I am most likely going to just order a BBE Optostomp... |

also sold my tech21...the pedal i had to have just wasn't cutting it for me...and since I decided to work instead of joining the drumline i don't really need it...
current setup:
SB7 --> Stereo Electric Mistress --> Phase 90 --> POG
the Mistress is everything and more...the deepest drippiest wetest chorus i have tried thus far...the flanger adds a sharpness to it...over all the color of this pedals sound is unlike anything I have tried...
The POG is just sweet...both up and sub octaves...I only run it blended to creat that organ sound that the demo video just can't justify...with that and one of my modulation pedals on it sounds dead on to an organ...
Comming soon:
Visual Sound Route 66...i found an older model with the old switches that i like and i have to wait to pick it up until Dec 1...so I am gonna call it an B-day gift to me...Dec 3 | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
