New Pedal Board Guidance.

Sign in to disble this ad
So I'm new to the whole pedal board thing, and to these forums. So i do apologize if there is already a thread for this. But i am looking for things more specific to me because i can't find too many help guides over google.

Anyway so i just started building a pedal board. Ive been wanting to be able to change my sound to how i want it and when I'm playing shows my sound can constantly change while using different amps. So by making the pedal board I'm looking to have a general sound. I play more pop rock kind of stuff (You Me At Six, There for Tomorrow), but going a bit heavier (A day to remember) would also be good. I wanna prepare for a few kinds of genres.

My question is, what to get for it and in what order i need it to optimize my sound? So far i have...

- Korg AX3B
- Boss Limiter-Enhancer
- Sansamp Bass Driver DI

The korg was when i first started playing gigs and was used to give general effects. I'm not too sure how i'll fit it into the board though other than maybe a noise reducer and a chromatic tuner.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks guys.

so, there are a BILLION options out there. and what you want is going to depend a lot on how you're going to play, what role you want to fill. i have little to no experience playing pop rock kind of stuff, but the stand-by's are usually....

Filter, Fuzz, Overdrive, and Octaver.

the SansAmp does a (not very good IME) overdrive, do you find yourself using that a lot?

i don't know the Korg AX3B, is that a multi-effects unit? i so, what kind of tones do you like in there?

also, do NOT browse through the Post Your Pedalboard threads. that way madness (and a ruined wallet) lead.

The sansamp is practically used as a overdrive, with a bit of an eq on it. I haven't got the sansamp just yet, i ordered it about a week ago and waiting for it to come in. But i was recommended to get it, said it does a very good job on the style I'm wanting to play. But i guess its all up to how you set it up. So the overdrive i think i have covered.

I don't think i need a fuzz and the limiter-enhancer is pretty much a filter. From what i know. I am probably wrong. Its hard to determine the best way of setting this board up.

Yeah its a multi-effect pedal, i use basic tones in it. Just something to give a deeper and more effective sound. Occasionally i use the effects in it, it can give some fairly good effects to muck around with. I used one in an intro once which sounded beautiful.

I'm thinking a Boss Equalizer may be handy? and maybe the octave.....but i really would like to know whether the octave pedal would be handy in these styles of music. I don't want to buy things and for them just to sit there.

I have had a look at the pedal board threads, just out of curiosity. They look sick but to be honest....i wouldn't put that much effort in. I want something simple, but gives the sound I'm wanting.

yeah, i'm not familiar with the bands you're talking about emulating, so i don't know what all you want for that.

forgot delays. love delays (when done right) on bass.

hopefully someone will chime in that has more experience and helpful advice for the genre you're going for.

Thanks man.
I'm just trying to get a rough ideas of good pedals to get.
Delay could definitely work. Would be cool to add into songs.
