Hello everyone, I've posted here a couple times but have been lurking around for a lil while.
Today I have an question about enevlope filters. I'm looking for "out there" EF. I have a pigtronix EP-2 right now and its nice and all but it doesn't do exactly what i want. It has a sound all its own, which is cool but not sure if i wanna make it my primary EF.
I play anything from blues/rock/post rock/jazz(think mars volta lol) I dont really use EF in the typical way. Im kinda looking to do weird sounds lol.
I thinking about getting either a soundblox pro BEF or EHX enigma qballs. which would work best in my current board? ( the russian muff and the echolution have been replaced by a bass big muff and a eventide timefactor) Ill take any suggestions besides the two pedals I've named. Even non EF pedals |

| | | | The xerograph deluxe looks very promising. Im kinda stuck between the soundblox and the iron ether now. The soundblox has presets but the iron ether has a less of a electronica tone...if that makes any sense lol |

sorry off topic but just curious..
how do you power all those? |

| | | | I have a voodoo labs PP2 under the pedatrain. That takes care of most pedals, the bigger stuff go into a livewire power supply until i get my hands on a voodoo labs digital |

| | | | Do you think the soundblox BEF is different sounding enough to justify putting it on my board? I know it does alot of what the EP-2 does, but does it do alot more?
Ive been looking into a 3leaf GR2 because it just feels soooo fat sounding. Every video i see with them they just play a traditional bass enevelope tone. Can it do the crazy stuff too? |

for me it's total overkill on a bass pedalboard. i have synths i can run an "aux in" if i'm jonesing for a tweakfest.
the filter on my proteus (which i'm guessing is very similar to it's siblings) is pretty broad, which can make it a bit tricky to dial in the frequency you want. most envelope pedals i've seen over the years tend to focus more on the sweet spot. seeing that you are a Pigtronix EP-2 user who is looking for more i'm guessing this shouldnt scare you off.
if you havent been already check a n a l o g u e h a v e n: w h a t w e s e l l
they have a pretty unique pedal effect section to rummage thru. |

also, a filter without an overall volume and a blend is never going to be anything but a Play Around With Fun Sounds filter for me. filters jump too much in volume with all the frequencies being swept through. |

Any suggestions along the lines of the Prometheus/BEF pro? im open to anything weird but useful. Long droning sounds, ring mods whatever lol |

The deluxe has a more useable step filter and a lot of bells and whistles but the Regular Prometheus sounds better.(IMHO, YMMV) |

the Midi Murf is SO damn much fun. |

| | | | Thanks for all the help guys. I checked out a local shop(if you wanna call an hour drive local) to try out the prometheus. While the overall sound is a lil more to my liking over the BEF pro, I ended up ordering the BEF pro anyways. The dry/wet control, presets and morphing ability with an expession pedal just tops all.
I dont mind messing with knobs between songs, but i cant do it while playing...
Thanks again guys. Although ive gone with the BEF pro, i can see myself buying the prometheus DLX at some point. It can get some real unique and useful sounds. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
