New Smallsound/Bigsound Fuzz Machine

And when i say new, i mean not just new to me, but a whole new Fuzzmachine! The changes include an additional (mysterious) knob and switch.

I could post a teaser picture he sent me but i think I'll wait until i receive the pedal to post it up.

So my search for a versatile fuzz pedal led me to BassFuzz.com. After reading all the reviews and hearing his demos i figured the SmallSound/BigSound Team Awesome Fuzzmachine was what i was looking for. After emailing the owner(Brian Hamilton) i was informed that he had none ready for sale, but was working on an updated circuit. In his words, "same price, more features, more fuzz...!".

My pink sparkle fuzzmachine will arrive tomorrow in the mail, so you could say I'm pumped. I'll post up my first impressions and some pictures tomorrow.

Anyways, thus far i can safely say Brian is a great guy to do business with. Here's his myspace...

I wouldn't expect many posts on a Sunday night, particularly when no pics or clips have been added yet I'd like to see it.

Touche', I'm just an emotional being is all...

It will be in the mail when i get home. Pics will come. But clips? Without having any way to go direct into the computer they would likely sound pretty not good.

So I've been playing around with it on my little practice amp and i can say for sure that this thing has a lot of sounds. So far I've been endlessly tweaking trying to figure the whole thing out. Problem is, i can't play this thing at a volume that would do it justice, due in part by fear of melting my neighbors faces off...

Pink Sparkle!

More info soon.

I figured i'd try to explain what the control are in my own words but i figure the man himself could probably do a better job...

"alright, so the new controls are as follows:

fv: fuzz volume

cv: clean volume... not 100% clean and a little darker than original signal

sh: shape... tone control, not totally standard but works well with this fuzz, imo

fz: fuzz... amount of saturation

in: input gain... this is also not very standard and works in 2 ways. a) it controls the amount of boosted signal going to the fuzz portion of the circuit. all the way CCW is the "stock" sound and as you turn it CW you will over-saturate the fuzz. b) it controls the amount of boosted signal going to the clean portion for overdriven/boosted clean sounds when the top switch is engaged - this lets you use the pedal as a standalone clean boost, overdrive, fuzz or any combination...

top switch: down - "in" only effects the fuzz, up - "in" effects both fuzz and clean boost.

bottom switch: "sh" range switch. down - stock, up - thicker, more mids, slightly gated"

The final test of my satisfaction with this pedal will come on wednesday. It will be running through my SVT rig and i will truly get a feel for how it sounds.
