I wish I could find an elaboration of this.

What do the tones of renowned guitarist such as Paige, Halen and Johnson have in common? They all used the legendary echo machine EP-3 as a pre-amp.
We've captured that magic in a new Xotic Effects pedal, the EP Booster.

I have a doubtache. They say on the one hand it provides "multidimensional, magical tone, with shimmering highs and lows", yet they also say it is a "simple, unadulterated, pure boost".

Reeks of BS marketing fluff over a plain vanilla FET boost.

My experience so far with Xotic effects has been pretty good, so I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt until I get a chance to hear the EP boost for myself...

I do agree with RCCollins though on the narrow form factor. I have a Serrano Picaso and although I think it's a great pedal, it wobbles a bit on my board and just doesn't feel as stable or solid as a standard enclosure pedal.

I don't understand this pedal. What is it supposed to do? Is it a preamp? Is it a boost? I don't get it. Someone please explain.

Maybe they'll start selling stabilisers?

It's a boost. Raises your volume.

That is a much better explanation than the "magic elves and fairy dust" version on the Xotic page.

lol

I must remember to put in the description of the next [sfx] device. Actually... I think I will call my next pedal "magic elves".

(For some reason it reminds me Spinal Tap)

Just mentioning it wasn't a unique new product.

As a little more info, I spoke to a buddy of mine that's a pretty well know guitar player in the industry...these were built with the old echoplex EP-3 preamp circuit in mind to try and capture what the EP-3 did/does. There was an EP-1 version (tube I believe), and the EP-3 version (Transister). A lot of guys (guitar players) use the Echoplex EP-3 as a preamp because it gives you this kind of compressed "thing" that's hard to describe. Eric Johnson has the prototype for testing, and my friend is supposed to get one to test soon when it's available. These won't be generally available to the public until sometime in October.

Even though it states there are DIP switches for setting boost freqs and EQ, I don't know what the points are. This may be a very cool thing for guitar, but dunno about Bass. I'm interested in playing with it though.

I'm curious to know more about the overall EQ profile, because the clinchfx site mentions that it has "a small amount of top and bottom cut". Inquiring minds want to know "how much is a small amount, and what range of bottom are we talking here?"
