The title track on Boris's Rainbow album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1z0FGxWi7Q&fmt=18
Right around the 2:40 mark, you'll hear it.
So, what fuzz/combination of pedals, techniques, and recording trickery is making that buzzsaw on sheet metal sound? |

2) sounds like some kind of superfuzz variant to me |

I think that's a damn schnazzy tone, personally, and I think it sounds awesome in context with the group. Is that not within your realm of appreciation, regardless of what it's being used on?
By the way, I see I'm not the only one who slips the "&fmt=18" into my links. Thanks for that, Deluge. |

From what i've read floating around, for the distorted tone Wata uses:
-Boss Ds-1
-2 muffs; IC and Triangle
-Cranked Orange and Green amps
She has a few other cool things like Space Echo, Tremolo and an SIB delay...
I've also heard people say she uses a "Boss Super Feedbacker" which others have told me is just a modded DS-1 with feedback but i dunno and i was never interested enough to look into it...
Here's a pic... dunno how old it is either.
haha sorry for the half-assed response. I hope it helps some.

haha sorry for the half-assed response. I hope it helps some. | The problem with that is that it could be either her or Micho Kurihara playing the solo. |

It's an entirely different kind of flying, altogether. It's an entirely different kind of flying.

As in, the show sold out while I was four people from the door. |

But I do think they are one of those rare bands that translates much better in concert than on their recordings, much like Skinny Puppy. In an entirely different, but wholly similar, sort of way.

My point was really that listening to Boris quietly is almost more rewarding then listening to them loud, if you're really paying attention. |

I love the density of the sounds they put into a recording, it takes a few times through to catch it all.
On the other hand, live..... they are LOUD! |

On topic as said by RC, it sounds like a supperfuzz to me.
I saw them on that tour with Micho Kurihara but I don't remember who played that solo......sorry.
