Newish to the effects game - Signal path advice?

Sign in to disble this ad
Going from old school heavy rock to more of an ambient/indie sound. I have gathered some effects and basically 'threw them together' on a little board.

Advice on some signal path ideas are MOST appreciated

Current path is...

Boss Tuner
GEB-7 EQ
SansAmp Programmable DI
Boss Chorus
Boss Compressor/Sustainer
BassBalls
Big Muff

I will be adding a volume pedal and maybe a delay.

Thanks TBers!

Common question. The answer is, there is no right or wrong way to go, just experiment with them, until you're happy. Usually, octaves, synths, etc, anything that requires a strong clean signal, would go first, and delays and modulations last, but really, it's just up to you to decide if you prefer dirt into whatever, or whatever into dirt, etc. have fun.

As already mentioned, there's no right or wrong order that's cast in stone.

If that was my pedal setup and assuming that your tuner is hardwired for pass through, I would insert the compressor after the tuner and in front of everything else. This way you are sending a clean dynamically controlled signal to the rest of your effects. If I want FOH or my recording track to get the same thing that's going into my live rig I would place the SamsAmp at the end of the chain.

Where you insert the DI all depends on what you want to send to FOH or recording input. If you want to send a virgin modeled DI, it should go up front. If you want to print EFX, then it should be inserted after the last effect you want to include in your DI signal. Keep in mind that the SansAmp is your virtual bass rig.

What they said.

I have a similar line-up, here's how I go at it, others will chime in with their recommendation:

BASS - Tuner - comp - bassballs - muff - SansAmp - Chorus - delay - AMP

Your GEB-7 EQ and volume pedal usually work well just about anywhere. Depends where you want them. As for me, I'd put them right before delay. But that's just me.

Here"s a bit of reading, hope it helps.
