Nice Crunch Combo! Xotic AC Booster and Sansamp

So I strolled into 30th Street Guitars in Manhattan the other day and, for the hell of it, tried out an Xotic AC Booster. I was so impressed that I picked it up after a ten minute try out. Hard to believe that this might be THE overdrive I've been looking for. Who the hell new???

Anyways, during a jam session tonight, I paired it with a Sansamp BDDI, which was weird, because, like a lot of folks, I have a BDDI, but I hardly ever use it live or for recording, especially since I got a Radial JDI.

Long story short; the AC Booster and the Sansamp paired together amazingly! A nice, clean crunch with mid definition, plenty of bottom, and sizzly (is that a word?) upper harmonics. I hardly dialed in any drive on the Sansamp at all - just a microscopic hair. Bass and treble at twelve, everything else at around 10:00, and I was set.

Maybe it's just me, but I almost feel like the BDDI was MADE to be paired with this thing. I always thought the BDDI sounded like a scooped out piece of crap on its own (no matter how I tweaked), and I was never impressed with the OD. But with the AC Booster? Great live, and great recording.

My test for a pedal is that it should sound good when you stomp on the damn thing, not after an hour of tweaking. The AC Booster on its own passed this test in a HUGE way. I was really surprised. I really feel like I got every penny's worth of $190 I paid for it.

Makes sense. The BDDI is scooped inherently, the AC provides a small mid-range bump - Voila!

Xotic's pedal are all pretty amazing! Have you tied the Bass BB Preamp as an overdrive? Different character than the AC & the eq is voiced for bass guitar... amazing pedals!

Haven't tried the BB Preamp. Dying to, though.
