My Russian Bass Balls was a pawn shop find at $15. I love that quirky but totally essential pedal

LED Clipping (not that that should add to the price) for $35 bucks.

Lots of distortion pedals new and used for $50 or under that sound cool, depending on your taste and how you use them. I bought my DOD 250 for $20 used, Boss DS-1 for $30 new, lots from the Ibanez Tone-Lok series that sound decent for dirt cheap. I got one for free before, smash box? DS7? Can't recall. Loaned it and never got it back, seen them go for $20-30ish used. I'm a big fan of using cheap guitar od/distortion/fuzz pedals for bass. If bottom end is an issue, you can always use a blender.

Bad Monkey
GGG red llama clone
BBE am64 distortion
DOD fx25

The devi-ever DIY stuff you can build for under $50 total, but you have to go through the minor pain of sourcing the enclosure, pots and jacks separately from the kits. I like my soda meiser and karaoke party a lot and will likely pick up a few more of her kits for some quick and easy awsomeness.

If I remember correctly, I bought (rather, my mom did) the DOD Classic Fuzz back in '93 for maybe $40.

So i went to the Best Buy where I live, and went to their guitar area. They had a bunch of pedals but only about 20 were under 50 dollars. Most of which were Danelectro pedals.

I went with the Danelectro French Fries (auto wah) for only 30 dollars and a Danelectro Pepperoni (phaser) for 40 dollars. I played both these pedals there at the place and they were easily the best two sounding for under 50. I was REALLY surprised with the French Fries auto wah, because as i recall ive seen many auto wah pedal videos on bass (youtube), like q-tron mu-tron and dod fx25, enigma's, 3leafs, ALL OF EM. And this sounded up to par with them (if not better, yes, i know, it sounds ridiculous) for 1/6th the price. But it was very one-dimensional and had only 2 settings a low and high.

BUT this was in-store, I come home with my pedal and cant even get it to work because it didn't come with a 9v adaptor and i tried using the ones we had sitting around at home and they didnt work, one adapter even got radio signals playing through my amp, which was weird.

The French Fries is only meant to hold me over for the 3leaf mu-tron pedal, which is in late January. Which will probably be a HUGE upgrade from this 30 dollar pedal.

Nope. (just me personally)

$50 is really pushing it, UNLESS you buy used. Lots of deals to be had here and on ebay, but I can't think of a NEW pedal that's $50 that I actually liked and kept.

I could see where your coming from with the "50 and under is no good" these cheaper pedals certainly kill the tone of your bass which could be very dissapointing. But these are mostly just cheap fun, i order a rc-20 dual loop pedal and i am getting it for christmas, so i went out and bought 2 real cheap pedals just so i had some different effects to loop around with. Im real pumped for that 3leaf mutron as well.

I picked up the Danelectro FAB chorus and flange to put them in my feedback loop but I tried them out individually on bass. They sound great for the $$. I think I paid $30 shipped for both pedals. Probably the best $30 I've spent this year. lol
