Okay, I've searched. Really, I promise. Please don't hate me if it's here somewhere...

I'm new here, and to the bass, so the question may be simple, but if I don't ask, I'll never know. How did David Paton get that sound in "Nikita?" Yes, it's probably obvious, but I don't have any experience with effects pedals for bass, never even seen one in person. I just play the instrument straight through the board...

Did I ask this in the wrong forum, or is it tougher than I thought?

It usually helps a lot if you post a link to the song. Or maybe even the name of the band

OK, is this the Elton John song you're talking about? I don't hear any effects on the bass at all, not even any dirt or overdrive. Just a straight-forward, really hi-fi bass tone.

Good call, bigchiefbc. Just because I'm familiar with a song doesn't mean that anybody else is, right? (just kick me in the stupid and call me a$$)

Yes, I do mean the Elton John song, and if theres nothing there but bass, then I need a better instrument. I guess it was even simpler than I thought, huh?

Thanks so much for answering the question, I appreciate it.

That's one of my all time fave bass lines. I think there's some mild overdrive going on, you can hear the slight bite in the fills. Cranked mids maybe.

It's one of my favorites, too, Bish42. I'll have to play with the EQ, and think about an overdrive pedal, then. Thanks.
