A Carl Thompson and ADA MB-1 preamp will get you in the ballpark.

I never noticed how scrawny the necks on his basses were before.

The Brown Album always sounded like **** to me. No pun intended.

On the contrary Les had discontinued usage of the ADA MB-1 by that time. But he is using Mesa 400+ amps with 15" cabinets there. A rarity. It's a bit more gritty for sure.

Try this out to get you along a little further.
What Pedal/Pedals does Les Claypool use?

Les' tone sucks it hard nowadays though I'm afraid.

TBH the reason nobody replied to your earlier thread probably wasn't that nobody could figure it out, but rather that we get posts asking for "a nice subtle bass distortion/overdrive" several times a day.

I am aware he doesn't use the ADA anymore, but I was just suggesting that particular unit as it got me the closest to his sound when I owned one.
