Non-Pedal Noise suppressor?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Guys,

Is it possible to use a noise suppressor that isn't a pedal like the Boss NS-2? I see some audio noise suppressors on ebay for like 5 bucks that you put between the head unit and the amp. Anyone using something other then a pedal for noise suppression and if so, what is it?

Thanks,
Nic

I bet you'll get the answer that you should eliminate whatever's in your signal chain that's causing the noise before you go for a suppressor. But that's not my answer. I used to use a rackmount Rocktron HUSH super-c, and that thing works great. Though it'll cost you more than $5.

well, I get hiss just going from my bass straight to my amp when I turn up the treble. Then if I crank my chorus pedal it gets worse...and it gets even worse if I turn on distortion. Just looking to get rid of the hiss noise mostly. There's also a weird noise from the chorus when cranked up when not playing...it's hard to describe.

For $5 you'll get exactly what you paid for. Guaranteed. FWIW everything you've described- turning up the treble, chorus, distortion- are all famous for hiss. Sure, there are exceptional units (usually costly) that do not add hiss, but they are the exception. In addition to the Rocktron unit mentioned, there is a very nice unit from ISP, but again it costs just a bit more than $5.

So you could buy the $5 one and either it works or it doesn't; you could buy one of the known-to-be-good but expensive units; you could live with the hiss; or you could turn down the treble on your amp's EQ, since the noise exists primarily in the high frequencies.

The Decimator. It comes in a rackmount and a pedal version. Pricey, but there's likely none better out there.
