noob at EQs and finding tones

So like that title says __________.

Anyhow, I asked in a different thread but will kind of repost.

I want to get a range of tones and sounds ranging from Korn and some generic jazzy/funky sounds.
What I have for equipment so far are a GK Backline 250 amp head, ESP Horizon-II, and a Squier Jbass Affinity 5string.

One fellow recommended that I get a 10 band EQ. Now, as to what model or make I am not sure on. If you guys wouldn't mind giving some input, I would greatly appreciate it.

My opinion?

Get a Zoom B2, figure out the sounds you like, then figure out the effects you want to up the quality on. The B2 is about 100 bucks, and has almost any common effect you may want to mess with, and most of them aren't bad.

It's kind of like a buffet. Sure the food isn't always of the highest quality, and it may have sat there for a while, and you have to help yourself- but it's reasonably priced and you can eat almost anything you want. The B2 is a pretty good buffet.

Here's something simple you can try:
Korn - turn down your bridge pickup and turn up your neck pickup. On your amp turn up the bass. Adjust the mids and highs to get as much finger noise and clack as you want. Pluck hard above the neck pickup.

Generic Jazzy - turn down your neck pickup and turn up your bridge pickup. On your amp, turn the bass up a little (to compensate for the bridge pickup) and turn up the mids. Pluck over the bridge pickup.
