Ok Talkbass here's the deal. I've been playing for a little over 20 years and only owned 1 effect pedal. It was a DOD distortion pedal and I owned it 19 years ago. I used it two or three times and sold it. I have since worked on my playing style and haven't used any effects since. I'm considering buying a multi-effect pedal. I could care less about amp modeling. I've got a decent combo (GenzBenz 400 NeoX). I'm playing through a custom 5 string with MEC gold active jazz pups and an aguilar OBP-2. I've read that most of the multi-effects pedal sound like trash but I really just want to get an idea of what effects I want to use without dropping too much change. What pedal would you guys recomend? Thanks.

Here's some of the multi-effects processors I would recommend.

Korg ax3000b(if you're lucky to find one)
Korg ax5b
Boss me-20b
Boss me-50b

These multi effects processors provide some pretty cool sounds. korg processors has a large variety of effects, amp and cab models. plus they're affordable. the boss processors has some awesome effects. their distortion channels has a smooth and heavy sound and they have decent modulation effects. These are the multi-effects processors I would recommend.

Lots of people like the Line 6 M9. I can't personally vouch for it, but I do have a few of their Tonecore pedals, and if the M9 is anything like those you'll probably like it.

Thanks guys. I've always heard that Boss makes quality gear. I've not heard a thing about line 6. I only knew Korg as a keyboard company. I don't think I could be any more ignorant on the subject.

Indeed boss does make quality effects. and it's true that korg makes multi-effects processors. they make multi-effects processors under the name toneworks. as for line 6, they make decent multi-effects processors and bass modeling processors. I've recently owned a line 6 bass floor pod and I think it's sounded pretty cool. not everyone likes line 6, but I think they make decent products.
