Not sure about my new Markbass Distorsore

I recently purchased my own Christmas present to me FROM my wife and it was the MB Distorsore. I bought this pedal after doing some research...I really liked the low and high pass filters as well as the blend knob. I recently sold my Sansamp VT Bass pedal, I just couldnt get the tone I wanted from it. And I traded my DHA VT1-MK3 Bass pedal as well (that sounded very good but a little too "subtle" and I was looking for something new).

Even though the MB does sounds good, its almost too warm and furry for me if that makes sense. I think I am looking more for a mid/upper mid grind sort of thing, but still subtle. Enough to cut but I dont want to sound like a guitard.

Does anyone have any suggestions for that sort of tone? (i.e. Agro, Leeds, etc) Does anyone else have the Distorsore and can offer suggestions?

Im not sure what to do, maybe its a case of EQing the MB, but I bought it from GC and they have the 30 day return policy and I need to make a decision soon.

I use a Leeds as my main overdrive right now, and it has a great upper mid honk to it that cuts through a mix like tissue paper (my guitard has a pretty scooped tone). I also dig that its got a pretty unique tone, and sounds a lot different from all of the tubescreamer-based and ampeg-based overdrive tones.

Are you playing hard with a pick? Just about any overdrive can be too "warm and wooly" if you're playing fingerstyle too lightly. Lots of extra presence to be had playing harder vs. softer and with a pick vs. fingers.

I play with both. Yes I agree with you about using a light touch with your fingers and how it can warm up any drive too much. I was playing with the filters last night and it says that if you use the high pass it will make your distortion sound "brighter", which theoretically is more of what I want, but I just didnt like the tone that much. Darn! I really want to like this pedal. But the only tones I like are very subtle, with the low pass filter all the way up, and blend pretty low, which quite frankly is all lost when playing with a band.

I just got a Leeds, and it's awesome. It might be what you're looking for.
