It's a 'Stomp Box' alright. Maybe the name isn't descriptive enough though.

Yeah, there are lots of these things, in fact they advertise regularly on this forum. I guess there's a big market - mainly from acoustic coffeehouse players and minimalist blues guys, because I must have seen about 20 different companies selling this same item over the last couple of years. It's a piezo element in a box. Sometimes the box is fancy wood, sometimes metal.

Doh.

Are there any plans to make one of your own?

Must be kinda easy as it's not battery operated and I don't think there's much inside.

all youd need is a piezo pup, which is not hard to find, and an enclosure...you dont even need a pad.

No battery either. Get something like this:

http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2062399

Crack open the shell and pull the piezo element out. Glue it inside a box. Judging from the variety I've seen, the box type doesn't make a noticeable different in sound (we're just aiming for a thunk sound here after all). A cigar box would be a goodplace to start if you're not into woodworking. Then wire the element to a regular 1/4" jack.

Or you could just pay between $100 and $200 bucks for a "Thunderstomp".
