NPD: Iron Ether edition

So a couple weeks back I ordered a Xerograph Deluxe and a Nimbus from Taylor at Iron Ether and I'd like to give you my thoughts:

First up?
Xerograph Deluxe.

Wow, this pedal is POWERFUL! I thought that Eden had the market cornered on "a little goes a long way", but this pedal is actually dangerous if you plug in and just start twiddling. You could easily blow your rig up with the low end coming out of this.

It's a fascinating pedal and the tiniest movement can make a big difference between an amazing filter sound and a hot mess. I read the manual first and got an idea of what Taylor was trying for in this pedal and I started slow. I was able to get some very cool sounds, sounds that I haven't been able to get out of any other filter, including the GR2. It's very funky, it's very versatile, and it's incredibly adjustable. I really like it.

Next up?

Nimbus:
Not my thing. I've heard a lot of reverbs that I've liked on bass. This isn't one of them. It doesn't sound bad at all, it's just not what i'm looking for. I guess I'll stick to my modulated pedals and delays.

I don't think Taylor has a return policy so this one will be showing up in the classifieds very soon. It's unfortunate but it's the price you pay for being a pedal junkie

I'm curious, what didn't you dig about the Nimbus and what reverbs have you liked on bass? I'm gonna try out a buddy's at some point but I want to know what I'm getting into beforehand. Right now I've got a Line 6 Verbzilla and I dig it a lot so far.

I liked the Line 6 actually. I seem to like the super digital reverbs I think. I'm in to reverbs that can add to spacey sounds and the Nimbus just didn't do it for me.

**edit** Taylor emailed me and clarified that this pedal is digital as well. Just wanted to make sure there was no confusion.

Yeah, I dig the spacey thing too and Line 6 does it great. That's basically why I got the pedal in the first place. Don't think I've actually tried a analog reverb before.
