So I was asked by my band to get a chorus pedal. The old bass player used one on one of their songs.

I want an Analog Man chorus with the deep thing-ie, but I don't want to lay down the cash just yet.

So I hit up the local GC for something cheap and came home with this guy, Ibanez CS9.

Got it used for $50. And it sounds damn good too. Can't wait to use it a practice and put it on my pedal board.

How would you say they compare?

I've owned the Maxon version of that pedal, and currently own an Analogman Mini Chorus with the fixed deep setting.

The Maxon was more shimmery and could almost run into flanger territory IME.

The Analogman is more a darker sounding chorus, especially with the deep setting.

Two very different beasts, but I found the Analogman to be the one that I wanted. I'd stick with that CS9 for now as it is a really good chorus pedal. You should check the internals to see if it is one that was made in Japan, as you would have lucked out and purchased one that was made by Maxon way back when. (Although the good condition of the pedal makes me thing it is not, which is not a bad thing either. The Ibanez version is perfectly fine, but is not to my knowledge true-bypass.)

The good condition makes me think it is the reissue. Also, this one is not true-bypass. So if the original ones were, this one is defiantly not.

I'll agree that they're pretty different sounding chorii so it's not really valid to compare them. Analogman makes good stuff but if it's not the sound you're looking for, their great stuff doesn't really do you a lot of good.

I will say that when I did own the CS9 I put it up against my Voodoo Lab Analog Chorus and I ended up selling the CS9. The Voodoo was so much more smooth and natural. Having said that, maybe smooth and natural isn't the sound you're going for!
