New Pedal Month!

recently went on a pedal splurge.....
picked up the Earthquaker Devices Hoof, Chrysalis, and White Light and Catalinbread SFT.

http://www.earthquakerdevices.com/devices.htm
http://www.catalinbread.com/SFT.html

All 4 pedals are excellent.

I used the SFT as a preamp to record all of the cleaner parts for our newest demo.....perfect sound.....fits the mix exactly as it should.
Live it sounds great too......I almost want two.....one that I can keep on all of the time to give my 800RB some clean character and that low mid roundness....and another set for DOOM.

The hoof rocks.
It's a lot more raw than the Musket fuzz.....which I like.
It's got a lot more flexibility too.
I use it for my all out nasty fuzz tones.

The White Light is also extremely awesome.......I'm surprised more bass players haven't started using this more.
I have it in the clean blend loop of the line selector.....
turns my rig into a overdriven tube amp.
EXACTLY what I have been searching for. punchy dirt with clarity.

I didn't care for the Chrysalis with bass(too much presence?).....but it sounded great with guitar. classic crunch.

Overall......4 great great pedals. I'm a EQD fan for sure.

Next up the Monarch!!

+1 on the Hoof. I have the 4-knob version and it has quickly become my favorite fuzz.

The interaction between the tone & shift knob is brilliant. The Hoof can easily go from thick throaty snarl to intense cutting rasp to responsive organic warmth.

Definitely has me curious about Earthquaker's other devices...

I've owned the Hummingbird (v.1) and the Grand Orbiter. Both sounded excellent on bass and were well built. The builder is easily accessible should you need him.

Good stuff!

I've been listening back to some of the recordings I did with the SFT, and it makes me want to re-record all of it with the SFT.

Has anyone ever used a Dirt Transmitter on bass?

Josh, would say the White Light needs to be in a clean blend to sound good on bass? Does it loose low-end on its own?

Hmmm....I really should try that!

I'll try it tonight at rehearsal and report back.

I just tried it........

The low end does get cut......and it does get distorted.

So I would say that it is best to have it in a clean blend system to retain the low end.

Have you ever listened to "OM"?
It really has that sort of distorted sound.
I know the website says it's similar to what OM used (mxr distortion +, and actively says it's different).......but I'm sure it's much more flexible and toneful. due to the controls.
with bass in the clean blend, it sounds great, focused attack....grunty distortion, and lots of raw sustain.

I recently picked up ED's Hoof and Hummingbird...amazing pedals. The Hoof replaced my Team Awesome Fuzz Machine, and it sounds great on guitar. The Hummingbird is a badass when I want to do some more experimental sounds...love it with synths. I'll most definately check out some more of their stuff (I want the Tone Reaper next, I think).

I might get the Hoof in a trade just to try it out.

They aren't finished yet.....but I'll see what I can do.

I only had 10 minutes with the Monarch, but it sounded GREAT.

REALLY thick and retains the low end.
It really does sound like an OR120.
Gritty and always on the edge of falling apart.

I tried it with my backup amp......so I'm not sure if I'll add it to my board yet or not?

I'd love to hear clips of the White Light if you have them? I just picked up a Monarch and it totally rocks...I'm really interested in other Earthquaker Devices pedals now.

Got the Ghost Disaster during their Blem clearance.
Great pedal, subtle changes make a big different. The reverb is lush, and the delay is warm.

Probably won't use it much for bass (since I'm not playing anything that needs it), but it sounds great for my guitar playing style.

Otherwise, I'm using the white light (sorry no clips), hoof on my gig board.
