Thanks for the clips. Not much musicality in the effects and doubt if they would sit nicely in a mix. While fun to mess with, only the reverb and its tweaking has a chance of being utilized with much musicality.

Don't get me wrong, I am all about effects and have owned many, including 2 Moog products. For me the bottom line for a good effect is actual musical application that I could even play a whole song with as opposed to random, too often muddy or out of key, noise-making.
Yes, sometimes a momentary efect, whether a jet engine howl bending to a high harmonic or a simple echo, can really spice up a song and be very cool, but I long ago decided not spend 2-3 hundred bucks-or more-for a moment.
But for those who feel differently--go for it!

Nice.

It's interesting, because the FatMan has never interested me as a filter (I like wetter, funkier sounds) but hearing the clip, I completely understand it's appeal for what you do.

And again, the Nocto Loco sounds great.

I gotta spend some time with the FatMan and see what it can do, but as I said, I'm not really captain funky hands, so for me, as you can hear, it really nails a certain classic electronic bass texture.

It is pretty close to the sound Tim got, but I'm pretty sure that he was sweeping the mooger with an expression pedal... same overall result, though.

That Nocto Loco is just such a good idea, I'm really tempted. And I'm still jealous you've got a BugCrusher, that thing's lovely.

You both need to tour the UK so I can get you drunk and steal your stuff.

True.

But I'm hoping the Holley Erectus (1) comes out this year and (2) is as awesome as I'm imagining it to be.

Dan Filter is probably MAM Warp 9 filter.

Oh, also, I forgot to demo the VCA in the Warp 9 and try that volume envelope idea you were talking about.

And also also, the keyboard you brought out for comparison was a Yamaha CS01, right?

Thing sounded epic. I think the tonal and soundscape possibilities for a bassist are just continuing to become more and more amazing. Adding the DOD was nice.

How was all this recorded?

In the phasor verb clip with the BugCrusher, what's being manipulated for those frequency sweeps? The feedback on the delay/reverb?

And Dan, have you ever used the Moog Ring Mod? If so, what did you think of it?

Ya, that's bugcrusher.

No, I've never used any Moog thing until last night when I tried John's filter. Sorry, not helpful, I know.

Another reason that not getting into the MAM's VCA was a failure is that it does some strange ringmod toanz.

as far as the recording, it was a Neumann U77 (a FET mic with a 67 capsule and transformerless out) on my Aguilar db212 and a Bova Ball for talking/ambience. Mic pres were Neve Portico. Each went to a channel on the console, with a Drawmer 1968 on the bus in case we got too loud. Captured in Logic.
