Ok well i really need to add an octave pedal to my arsenal
i have read just about every post i could find on the subject, and everyone seems to complain about tracking on almost every brand and type mentioned
so here is my question
if you were going to go out and buy an octave pedal today which one would you buy and why?
(Note i play active basses, mostly stoner/sludge/doom and mostly 5 string models and mostly looking for octave down)

There was a thread a while back when someone got a new one and it didn't give the great sounds promised, but it turned out it was just a dodgy unit.
this really is a great little octaver, and it's also really simple to use!

I've recently taken to throwing a Small stone and a Holy Stain (Dirt, Reverb, Pitch Shift, and Trem) in front of my HOG and it still tracks perfectly. |

Turns out I hate the digital glitchy sound of it. If you are looking for more warmer tones, the Micro Pog is not the pedal for you. I am still going to give mine a shot for a while though. Octave down works much better than octave up. |

I wanted it so I could use the octave up on guitar. It's very clean- almost to the point of you wanting it to be glitchier |

PLUS it has the 'Range' control in Poly mode, which allows you to only octave the low notes, leaving higher notes untouched.
I said 'glitch resistant' because compared to the POGs - which are really worble-free - you can get a bit of glitch or worble on double or triple stops with the OC-3 poly mode - but never with single stops.

The unit is about $200, and it requires its own power supply, but there are a lot of really cool sounds to be had in that box, including a Big Muff model that sounds better than my Big Muff. |

Tracking gets funky below D on a lot of octave pedals.
I play heavy, spacey stuff tuned to B standard. The EHX BMS tracked like crap below D. The HOG hits it, but not well with fuzz on... |

jack white used a digitech whammy on "elephant" (and seven nation army)
I can't think of any bands that use the OC2 other than "lightning bolt".....
I actually use both of these in my crazy 2 out, 2 amp bass setup....
(I got 3 octaves coming out my amps!)
EDIT: I said jack black originally.......man... I do that all the time.

If you just need the Octave up, then the Akai Unibass would be a good choice... | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
