Octave Multiplexer Vs. Micro POG

Which one do you prefer and why? Is the Micro POG really worth ~$125 more?

2 completely different devices. I like the Multiplexer, because it's got a great analog tone, and the 2 filters are extremely handy for dialing in a really nice deep octave. The POG is digital, has an octave up, as well as down, and sounds nothing like the analog Multiplexer. So, depends on what you're looking for.

how is the tracking in the Multiplexer? similar to the OC-2?

I wish they had a pedal that tracked like the MicroPOG but sounded like the Multiplexer. That's all I'm going to say.

Pretty much. The Multiplexer actually does have very good tracking for a analog octaver. The only biggish down side to it is the volume drop. The volume drop is in the octave side so the more effect you have mixed in the more it drops, it's not supper severe but for some people it can be a hindrance. The volume drop seems something to with the LPF in the circuit, the the higher the LPF is up the more the drop is noticeable.

I just got a multiplexer and love the tone too. But I think the volume drop will really bug me. How do you guys remedy this?

Clean booster/pre-amp after it.

Or

I remember seeing somewhere where someone added a LB-2 circuit inside of one, this was one of the older ones in the bigger box, which is what I have [without the mod though] I don't know if there enough room in the new smaller sized ones. Maybe a AMZ mini-booster might fit.

Or a clean boost anywhere. The "girth" side of the MXR BOD is pretty close too. I use that now instead of the Multiplexer, but I think the tone on the Ehx is better.

The OM is a lot more organic and natural than the POG, and a whole lot fatter, as well. I just put the XO Multiplexer on my board and I'm digging it a lot. It seems to have a lot more versitility than most any other octave that I have run across, and the tracking is pretty solid for an analog octave pedal. I can get down to the G on the E string without a lot of warbling, as long as the notes don't sustain for too long. The POG's tracking is pretty much the best you can get, though, and it will do multiple notes at one time, plus it has the octave up feature as well. For my situation, the OM fits a lot better than the POG.

Unfortunately, it probably won't happen, because the reason that the POGs track so well is that they don't track anything at all. All they do is digitally sample the audio coming in and then pitch that up or down a specific amount. That's really the only way to do polyphonic tracking of an audio signal.

Oh, and as for the volume drop issue, I haven't noticed it, but I split my signal and mix the Multiplexer with the blend cranked all the way to wet into my dry sound with my LS-2, so I'm not running it the way most people would.

I had the same dilemma last year. I ended up going for the MicroPOG since I do tend to use Double-Stops and the Multiplexer wouldn't go below a low A on me.
I really loved the girth and certain dirt of the multiplexer, but I use a lot of Fuzz and Overdrive, so I didn't mind the MicroPOG's "unnatural" sound (Not to mention in a live situation nobody would notice it)

Yeah, I ended up getting rid of the octave multiplexer and replaced it with an MXR bass octave deluxe.

I wish EHX would put out the octave side of the BMS without the filter. The BMS was the best octaver I've had but the filter actually had more unwanted distortion on my B string than the -1 octave did. Seems like a no brainer, an analog -1 and +1 octave pedal.

Huge +1! The POG2 has sooooo much tonal ranges! It has 8 presets and I use them all still want more! Can sound pretty close to an 8-string bass, organ, overdriven organ, slow gear, amazing chorus, octaver, and lots more.....
