Octave pedal for loud dance-punk

Sign in to disble this ad
I front a dance-punk group with no guitars and I would ideally like to get one octave pedal that could provide a deep yet crisp disco tone clean (think "Moving in Stereo") as well as a crushing heavy tone through my SABDDI for the loud stuff. Tracking down to Bb would be nice, but I think given how loud we are an exceptionally deep octaver may just sound muddy and need extra EQ.

I'm thinking the EHX Octave Multiplexer would be a good one for me because it's got the adjustable high-pass filter right in there and I can cut out the low frequency response as needed. But the DigiTech XBW is also a solid pedal that has a whole lot of enticing sounds for the same price... I'm just concerned whether they translate that well on stage, in a really loud setting.

I've used a few octave pedals, including the Boss, and I've settled on the EHX Octave Multiplexer. Not sure how it'll do in "loud" situations yet, I use it very sparingly, but the filters are the whole reason to have this pedal. It's nice to be able to sculpt your own sound, and the tracking is pretty good, so long as you play your notes cleanly. Seems to get warbly below the open A, like most other octavers, so lower than that probably wouldn't work too well. Hope that helps.

The frequency of a Bb an octave lower than a Bb on a B string shouldn't even be audible. It'd be something like 17Hz. You might feel it, but there's no way it'll be "crisp".

I recommend going analog for one thing, though that's just my preference; I prefer analog suboctave sounds. The EHX isn't my favorite out of the suboctave sounds I have heard. I would recommend checking out the Boss OC-2 (not the OC-3), I really like it's tone. I've got a few sound samples for it with distortion pedals in the threads I've made with distortion pedal sound samples. Search for threads posted by me if you're interested in taking a listen.

Oh I should clarify, I meant the Bb on the A string; I play EADG. I'm more concerned about the harmonics getting across than the fundamental. Judging by the other posts that shouldn't be a problem.

I'll look into it for future samples, but for now the only copy of all the samples I've done exists on putfile. Sorry it's not working for you! If you're particularly interested in hearing any of them, I might be able to fetch them for you though.
